“De Nadie” (Laguna Productions) is an incredible film and it impresses beyond the wildest imagination. It looks at reality from the inside and makes you wonder if the human hasten actually exists.

Immigration is such an vital topic nowadays and seems to be the major news memoir slow the upcoming presidential election. As Americans, we only gain one side of the epic and that is the American side. We hear and we read about those deported all of the time but they are nameless and faceless people. They are not a piece of us and we tend not to care about them. “De Nadie” gives them both faces and names. In reality we are all immigrants living in a nation of immigrants–we have all advance to America from somewhere else–at least some portion of our family did but we have chosen not to remember that. The film shows us what we have not seen and chosen not to remember nor talk about. We observe that coming to America is no simple saunter and it is not fair about a border crossing. To learn about immigration we must venture to the source and that is in the home country of those who arrive here. The film looks at Mexico as the home country and takes us along the road to the United States. As we fade we forget what it is to be human. After all we live in America, the land of plenty and opportunity. Not only do we feel that the country is ours but we conclude the door to others and at the same time, ignore the steady boom of poverty. As Americans we should be ashamed because we know that our continent is more than unbiased one country. We despise instead of helping and by doing so, we lose our sense of humanity.

I do not judge many of us truly understand the scrape of Central Americans who form their blueprint through Mexico and it is painfully shown here. These people are forced into making astronomical sacrifices objective so they can live better lives and provide for their families. As the son of American immigrants who came here from Russia, I have been privy to may stories but to actually observe the struggle makes everything I have ever heard become accurate. Isn’t life really about wanting to do better? If so, why does anyone have the just to squash that desire? The entire aspect of immigration to America from Mexico has caused ample debate but we have not been aware of the route that Central Americans have had to buy to simply salvage closer to their goal of immigration to the United States.

By looking at the stories of several immigrants. The film explores the many challenges that they face—everything from transportation and health issues to downright government corruption and the shatter up of families. There are times that I felt, while watching the film, that I had seen too worthy and did not want to glance anymore but then the movie brings forth compassion as if it is a sudden ray of hope. So often we forget about the human side of immigration and peek at it as only an yelp. “De Nadie” puts a face on immigration and makes us survey at it in a completely different way–the arrangement we should notion it.

This ugly documentary depicts the difficult hump and struggle of immigrants trying to earn it to the US through Mexico and Central America. It provides troubling insight into the abuses suffered at the hands of Mexican authorities. No surprise it won at the Sundance Film Festival.

For music lovers, the wonderful soundtrack alone is worth the pick.

This is the film adaptation of what might be the best graphic fresh I`ve ever read. There are no words to relate how powerful I esteem the novel comical book so I attended the North American premiere of Tekkon Kinkreet at the Moma in NY with high expectations.

Not only did the movie not fail to meet them but in fact added spellbinding and unexpected layers to the narrative. I am an animator; I`m rarely delighted with the technical aspects of most inviting features but the production on Tekkon is flawless. The animation, character make, backgrounds and camera work are all top notch. The two main characters are rendered in all their complexity and the movie doesn’t skittish away from the deep implications that the unique chronicle holds within its pages.

The movie is faithful to the silly book and the storyline is basically the same. However, Michael Arias and studio 4C were sometimes inventive, albeit in appropriate and creative ways. The modern uniforms of the three warriors that Snake sends to waste Dismal and White are shapely and reminiscent of a Moebius illustration- the final confrontation between Dusky and the two remaining warriors is held in the amusement park instead of the car-shelter dwelling (which makes room for unique dynamic shots) – but my common shift from the modern material has to be the minotaur sequence. A lot of people complained that the movie is not as audacious as Mind Game (studio 4C`s previous adventure into elephantine length features) but I disagree – the animation gets very experimental during the minotaur scene showing the thin line between reality and Black’s violence saturated subconscious. I loved the blueprint they communicated the internal struggle by using the graphic language of animation alone.

Overall, Mind Game’s pastiche of animation styles is probably more valiant but Tekkon more than compensates for it’s more rigorous style with incredibly strong characters (MG characters came off as a exiguous wacky at times) and a epic that is so top-notch that it hurts. If your eyes are not wet by the time Dim and White come by separated you are a soul-less fiend and you may want to mediate a career in advertising.

I haven’t been so enraged about an anime since Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence hit the theaters; it’s a shame that while it was one of the most famous movies of the year in Japan, Tekkon Kinkreet got very diminutive distribution in Europe and in the US – so do yourself a favor and prefer this DVD!

If you like Akira (Special Edition) or Ghost in the Shell, and view they were good masterpieces despite their ambiguous style of storytelling, then you’ll cherish Tekkon Kinkreet. It’s as upright an anime as there ever was: it follows its beget style of storytelling, it has spellbinding, even endearing characters, and the art is fair ravishing. It sits comfortably next to some of the best anime ever to approach to the States.

Tekkon Kinkreet follows two young boys, known around the city as the Cats, but to each other they are Dim and White. Murky is a brooding, violent youngster with a gift for taking injure and dishing it out. White is, simply, special; he’s empathic, enjoys life, and has a deep sense of when things aren’t true. He also seems to be magically gifted. That gift, however, has left White an innocent boy, incapable of growing up and acting his age; that’s why Murky feels obligated to protect the young boy, and the that means eliminating any possible threat to him and White, as well as the city in which they live. Thus, these two have a few enemies, including the Yakuza, some odd and noteworthy alien assassins, and a mysterious creature known by the youth in the city as the “Minotaur.” All the while, the two are continually robbing and mugging those within their city so that they can effect White’s dream of living in a house on a beach….

Yeah, spirited, I know. But what makes the anecdote of Tekkon Kinkreet that noteworthy better is the surreality of the whole thing. It doesn’t try to define much; it doesn’t have to. White and Gloomy can race at tall speeds and leap ten feet into the air; aliens exist; and a boy has the power to link himself mentally to his best friend. Why? Because they do…. And all the while, it’s as fantastically believable as a well told fantasy modern.

Outside of that, the art and characters of Tekkon Kinkreet helps to drive the myth along. The settings contains so powerful detail that it’s impossible to rep anything. If this was a “Where’s Waldo” drawing, you’d never rep him. The character art is also fine, reminiscent of the short sequence in Destroy Bill, Volume 1.

Now, for the one drawback (which many older anime fans wouldn’t even believe as a drawback) : this will be a very difficult anime for a new-comer to procure into. The epic isn’t difficult to follow, but it can be confusing and the ending leaves a lot unanswered, as is the wont of anime. Peaceful, though, if you have some experience with anime, then you won’t be disappointed. The art is elegant, the myth is enthralling, and the characters are endearing. I’d rate it higher if it were possible. Tekkon Kinkreet is definitely one of the best anime ever.

It’s been almost four years since I first saw Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and wrote my review for Amazon.com. After seeing the fresh complete version on Blu-Ray, I plan I’d advance benefit and offer my thoughts only to behold that my current review was transferred over from the DVD edition. That review was written at a different time, before the DVD was even released in the States. I idea about going befriend and revising it, but that’d be changing the past. What I will add are my thoughts on the unusual Blu-Ray edition.

Firstly, if you’re looking at the Blu-Ray edition, wondering if it’s a great occupy, it definitely is. It’s a distinguished trustworthy version to the unique, both in allege and clarity. Obviously, with the Blu-Ray the recount quality and sound quality have been considerably increased. There’s a few cramped nitpicks, such as a vivid, aliasing jam that pops up every now and then (The Resident Evil: Degeneration Blu-Ray had a similar jam) and it can be distracting. But the details are so grand clearer now that it looks like a modern movie.

Additionally, original snort has been added to this release. A lot of times, “director’s cuts” can be detrimental to the film and the pacing, but in the case of Advent Children, I appreciated the original narrate. I gain there’s an additional 26 minutes added and these parts delve into the Geostigma and the origins of some of the characters as well as an extended fight between Cloud and Sephiroth. Overall, I consider the additions are useful and support execute the movie more of a movie and less an extended slice scene. It’s objective too poor that it didn’t near with a playable demo of Final Fantasy XIII like it did in Japan…

On to my modern review as it was assist in 2005:

Cloud, Tifa, Sephiroth, Marlene, Barret, Vincent. The names could go on. This series reigns in many Final Fantasy fans’ minds as being the best. Though in unique years a lot of people roll their eyes and say its over-rated (and it might be), for me, and for a lot of fans, Final Fantasy was a turning point in the genre not only in terms of graphics and presentation but also in memoir. I have been playing video games and RPGs since the very first NES. Final Fantasy VII was the first game that made me end and go, wait when did a video game become something more than unbiased pushing buttons?

Now we have the official sequel, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Advent Children is basically a cherish tag written for the fans of VII. Those who did not invest 40, 50, 60+ hours into the game will probably have no interest in it. But those who were fearful when (should I even say spoiler? ) Sephiroth murders Aeris, who have a deep connection to the characters, and over the 40-60+ hours grew so attached to them that to this day they quiet device fan art or peep for that elusive arrangement to gather Aeris befriend in game(it doesn’t exist, by the draw), this movie will mean something.

AC is a lovely CG movie taking region two years after the events of FFVII. While the ending of VII was climactic and exhilarating, providing a resolution of sorts to the people of Midgar, it did not provide a resolution, blissful or not, for Cloud. In fact, it left him empty and wound as we salvage in the beginning of Advent Children. What AC does is enact Cloud’s epic. Another reviewer here made a comment that he liked FFVII’s ending. I do too, don’t gather me unpleasant. But the one thing it didn’t do was demolish Cloud’s chronicle. For the length of the game, you have a deeply personal fable surrounded by the world anecdote and while the world got its ending, the people fervent did no, gloomy or not. As I said, AC ends Cloud’s chronicle with a bang. And it is damn well worth the wait.

I don’t mediate it would be fair of me to talk about what happens in AC. Share of the fun and surprise is to recognize how well it fits together, brings memories of the video game and works to effect an emotional core. I will retain the review as spoiler free as possible because I know I’m tired of reading reviews where people stick in something that can waste the whole movie.

For those who didn’t play or leer FFVII, this movie will not have worthy resonance since it’s basically for the fans, both die-hard and casual. Those who loved FFVII will more than likely like this movie. AC is basically an action movie and the action is spectacular although the dull motion was ragged (while effectively) a minute considerable. The sword play, the battles and the action is all directed with style oozing everywhere. The characters are all inviting exceedingly well and the animators did a tall job in making PS1 characters into spectacular CG. The musical gain varies for me from being expedient to objective okay. By far, the best moments are ones I can’t talk about aurally for apprehension of spoiling surprises. Needless to say, the music is at its greatest when it brings in hints of FFVII, the video game.

There are a lot of connections to both VII and the Final Fantasy series as a whole. From moogle dolls to The Turks, the game oozes both FFVII and FF; although I was disappointed in not seeing any chocobos, there are a few moments that made up for it. One in particular revolves around the games Waste Battle Theme. Hilarious, laugh out loud scene. There are some minor annoyances. A couple of the scenes felt episodic and not connected. Some scenes were directed very well and lead into each other or intercut between each other. But there are a couple scenes that stand out because they didn’t feel attached to what was going on. In fact, it felt as if they were cleave scenes from a video game. Did this detract from the movie? Not in the least, but its there nonetheless.

What surprised me the most with this movie is that it wasn’t done to milk the saga. I mean, of course its there to invent money, and FFVII is a mountainous design to do it because of fans’ worship for it. Anything in the business world is made around making money. But what I mean exactly is best represented in FFX-2. I am one who did not accept FFX-2 at all bright. In fact it is the only FF game I gave up on. It felt like it was a procedure of milking FFX for a dinky more money while the wait for FFXII kept getting longer and longer. However, AC is so intrinsically related to VII that it has a heart and emotion that I haven’t seen in many movies released this year. I felt chills from the very opening moments as the narrator explained some of the events from VII and we scrutinize a flashback of Sephiroth standing in front of flames. And that was honest the originate of the thrills; there are scenes both emotional and thrilling to be found throughout the 1 hour 40 minutes of the film. And what elated me above all else was that Cloud’s tale finally received a perfect resolution.

I contemplate most fans have been hoping and wishing that Aeris would return and I judge the creators give a grand retort to this in this movie. I won’t spoil the ending, I won’t negate you who does and doesn’t return. But I will notify you the resolution is damn well awesome and probably the most satisfying ending to what is by far many people’s current (if clichéd) choice for the Final Fantasy series. I do need to do a plea and I apologize for it, but if you downloaded this movie (like a positive reviewer did *cough*) please attend it when it comes out here in the States and take it. We need to display befriend to Square-Enix that this is the kind of sequel we want to survey. They spent a long time and a lot of money making a movie that is scream to DVD here in the states. We need to return the favor and succor it.

Square-Enix, my hats off to you for handling this with flair, tenderness and sympathy for the characters.

About the Film:

I followed Advent Children closely from the first time it was announced some time in 2004. I am a die-hard Final Fantasy fan, and although I would have preferred the sequel to one of the greatest games of all time (Final Fantasy VII) to be, well, a game, I was glad to peep the anecdote continued in a medium with slightly more widespread appeal. Although the writers made an wretchedness to allow this movie to stand on its enjoy, people who have played the game (and remember the status and characters) will certainly glean considerably more out of it.

About This Release:

In production since about 2006, this version of the film, subtitled “Complete” is the Japanese equivalent of a director’s crop. In addition to a current high-definition transfer of the film several scenes have been extended or reworked and current scenes have been added to further round out the sage and provide more visual flash. It may not seem like noteworthy while watching it, but in total the film has been extended by fully a third taking it from 90 minutes to 2 hours running time.

Visuals:

Although respectable, I have to say I was expecting more from the High-Definition release of this movie. My first misgiving is with the inconsistent visual quality. The newly added scenes are generally presented with the kind of titillating visual detail that HD enthsiasts have approach to inquire. The older scenes, while clearly providing more detail than the DVD release, are missing the clarity that right HD material is superior of, often appearing fuzzy or out of focus. It is not generally noticeable, but it does become an definite annoyance in a couple of scenes. Arguably this could have been done on purpose, adding a “fuzzy” filter for ambiance, but I doubt they would have intentionally added upscaling artifacts which are explain in this film. The most famous instance I can take is during Tifa’s scenes, particularly in the church; the aliasing on her hair is more reminiscent of a DVD being upscaled to 1080p than of a original render done in 1080p.

Little touches have been added to further “sell” the quasi-realism that this film is striving to attain. During battles characters’ faces accept dirty, during one scene flecks of dust in the air created miniature shimmers.

Story:

While the same record is being told, the added/extended scenes and to an extent the visual enhancements do add a different slant on the position of Advent Children. While the main points of the narrative remain unchanged, the position is made clearer and sure elements which seemed random or unimportant pick on modern meaning.

[Spoiler alert!]

For example, during a scene a girl carrying a stuffed moogle comes up to Denzel and holds out her hand for him to follow. In the fresh DVD release, this is really all we gape of her, but in the “Complete” release we pick up to spy an earlier scene that reveals she is really trying to originate an apology to Denzel for being coarse before.

Denzel plays a powerful more prominent role in this version. It was never determined to me what it was that Cloud was so busy doing before I saw this release, but in this version it is revealed that he was out looking for a cure to the Geostigma so he could support Denzel.

In the DVD release, the Geostigma seemed like exiguous more than a charcoal colored rash that slowly killed people. In this version it is considerable more irascible, causing sores that ooze sticky dim sludge and induces violent convulsions and vomiting of the same dark sludge.

I’ll leave the spoilers at that, but I’ve only revealed a couple of the dozen or so area augmentations that this version of the film brings to the table. Most of them gave me that “Ooooh that’s what they meant. I earn it now.” feeling. Maybe I’m unprejudiced unimaginative, but a lot of these things weren’t certain to me in the film’s current presentation.

Sound:

This film really benefits from the expanded HD audio – more so if you have the equipment to properly decode the newer HD audio formats, but even when down sampled to Dolby Digital, the sound is richer and has remarkable fewer compression artifacts. Some of the music has been remixed slightly and it seems like I heard one or two additional compositions. Many of the songs were written to lock in with positive scenes, and when the scenes were extended, so was the music. I was very impressed with how seamless it all seemed.

Voice acting is one of those things, like pizza toppings, that nobody seems to be able to agree on. I have never been terribly picky about impart acting, but since everyone is different I’ll attempt to provide some frame of reference for my thought. My plan of terrible roar acting is the Devil May Yowl anime, and my notion of splendid squawk acting is Cowboy Bebop. I believe the command acting is advantageous in Advent Children. I was particularly cheerful to hear the voices chosen for the ancillary characters like Barret, Cait Sith, Red XIII, Yufie, Vincent and Cid. But the actors chosen for main characters Cloud, and Tifa were very pleasurable matches for what I imagined the characters from the game would sound.

Extras:

This review is of the Japanese release, and frankly I did not really care enough about the extras to check them out. I watched them once when the DVD release came out and can’t be bothered to do it again. This does near with an additional involving “episode” about Denzel. For those of you who want to know absolutely everything there is to know about how a movie was made, you will not be disappointed with the depth.

For me the steady attraction in the extras was the inclusion of the Final Fantasy XIII playable demo. Since the PS3 is location free, the Japanese release is very import good. (If you don’t mind that it is all in Japanese) The U.S. release mentions a Final Fantasy XIII “preview”. I don’t know if that means that it will be a demo, or an extended trailer. It would be a shame if it was the latter.

Final Thoughts:

I wish all “director’s nick” releases could enhance the recent presentation as well as Advent Children Complete does. The extra footage catapulted this already grand movie firmly into the category of awesome. If you didn’t devour the first release because you fair didn’t “win it” then this release may be objective what you need to achieve the pieces together as many of the more vague areas of the place are clarified. If you loved the first one, then you’ll treasure this one even more. About the only thing it is missing is the ability to discover the recent release version of the film. Personally that isn’t an notify for me but it would have been a nice addition.

Although this review is for the Japanese release, I doubt powerful will change in the final U.S. version. My reasoning is that the the DVD release was nearly identical for the two territories, and there are only two months between Blu-ray releases.

A Giant, Startling Vision
This brilliant work by director Morris is the stuff of life. And death. It arouses the most basic moral and immoral questions of being human through an enormously complex and yet simple man, Robert Strange McNamara. It seems no coincidence, his middle name, as we get to know him in all his cleverness and contradictions. Morris subtly illuminates, literally through McNamara’s eyes, what it means to have power over life and death. Like God. There is something almost spiritual in McNamara’s eyes, edited against searing images of, well, graphs, statistics, memoranda, bursting firebombs and nuclear mushrooms, almost all rarely seen-before footage. The eyes are the soul of this film – McNamara’s are a combination of supreme confidence and extreme doubt. But not only his eyes – for example, we see President Kennedy’s eyes frozen in the lens as he tells the nation of imminent nuclear war in 1962, a look that would make a Marine shiver. This new interview technique (“interrotron” ) draws us into what? War? Peace? Honor? Life? Power? Evil?

Born 85 years ago, McNamara is the quintessential man of his time, what Brokaw called the greatest generation, a sobriquet this documentary underscores. In McNamara’s words he deplored the sorrow and pity of the four great wars of his lifetime; the trenches in France; the nuclear and indiscriminate firebombing of innocent Japanese; the debacle in Korea; the flaming jungles of Vietnam. His command of statistics is breathtaking. But it is the eyes that reveal an inner truth, the precise opposite of his concise, rational words – his 11 “lessons”. We see a man who never found himself in harm’s way. We see eyes so ironically blinded by a circa 1918 vision of duty and honor that, though he loathed the horrifics of Vietnam, he was compelled to allow his true judgment to go unexpressed until nearly 60,000 Americans were dead. He was at once perhaps the most powerful man in the world and its most despicable. It is easy to see why a brilliant young President Kennedy would choose someone as Defense Secretary who seemed so like himself, but tragically without the courage. And why, with Kennedy’s death, McNamara by sheer ambition and brilliance would ascend to the very pinnacle of power.

Yet, I couldn’t hate this guy. Perhaps the most telling moment is McNamara’s clear devastation at Kennedy’s assassination 41 years ago, again told in his eyes and a rare, emotional choking voice. So it’s difficult to blame him for all those deaths he might have prevented — McNamara genuinely believed he was doing the right thing for his Presidents: through an obsessive sense of duty and loyalty. Now that his day of legacy approaches, he expresses criticism over the actions of others — General LeMay and President Johnson are the favored targets. But McNamara cannot quite bring himself to admit his own mistakes of enormous proportions. Yet it’s quite clear that he was one of only two men who could have ended the 7-year slaughter (of his term in office). Many may find that failure a reason to despise the man. I found it just human.

This film offers up no easy answers (certainly not his 11 “lessons’), but more importantly raises many fundamental questions. Philip Glass’ elegiac, edgy scoring perfectly meshes with this thriller. An impressive and important contribution to understanding our nation’s ambivalent past.

It’s His Eyes
You end up watching this man, a “talking head,” for so long. While there are a handful of shots of him driving what looks like a Ford Taurus past the Pentagon and a number of other government landmarks, almost all footage showing a contemporary Robert McNamara seems to be a single-camera setup.

He is trying to be honest, but does not promise to be self-revelatory. Others here speculate that it is his shot at redemption. If you know his work at Ford, you know that he’s not really a redemption kind of guy. Rather, he’s more a scientist or engineer. He want’s to contribute to a growing body of knowledge. He’s [obviously] not afraid to make mistakes, so long as they are cataloged and recorded.

So long as we all learn from them.

That’s why he made this film. There are moments of emotion – for example, when he talks about John Kennedy’s death. But it’s not a confessional. He says more than once, “I’m not going to go into this,” because it relates to private matters.

Watch his eyes. Watch how hard it is for him to do what he feels so strongly compelled to do: somehow add meaning to his experiences by teaching us. The pain his eyes express sometimes is at once awful and compelling.

I don’t think he made this movie to earn absolution. He’s the kind of guy who would claim absolution as a matter of right.

No, he wants us to learn, and to enable that by as much lucidity and honesty as he can muster. Most leaders don’t care enough about us to take this effort.

As much as a reasonable person could hate McNamara, I thank him for trying to teach us. It’s like hearing someone already in hell trying to offer a word of warning.

Brilliant insights
Errol Morris’s stunning documentary is about one of the 20th century’s most significant players: Robert McNamara, who reprises the highlights of his life and professional career. The movie covers a lot of ground, including McNamara’s stint as a Ford Motor Co. executive, his participation as a war planner in World War II, and his crucial involvement as secretary of defense under President John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and under Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson during the Vietnam War. There are some stunning revelations, including his role in the firebombing of Japan, as well as the nuclear face-off between the United States and Cuba. This is another brilliant coup for Morris, the inspired documentarian who has made a career out of conversations with the most fascinating subjects. He tells a story that knocks you right off your feet.

Gerson Therapy, or Chemotherapy: Guess which one has less than 3% success?
It has been said that more people live off cancer than die from it. The Beautiful Truth is a movie that can put a stop to this travesty. Here is a very practical guide to the intensive nutritional treatment of cancer and other life-threatening diseases that many would consider to have been impossible to obtain. But thanks to the work of Max Gerson, M.D., and his daughter, Charlotte Gerson, this knowledge is readily available.

Max Gerson cured cancer. He did so with a strict fat-free, salt-free, low-protein, essentially vegetarian dietary regimen, based on great quantities of fresh vegetable juice, supplements, and systemic detoxification. Ms. Gerson explains:

“Dr. Gerson found that the underlying problems of all cancer patients are toxicity and deficiency. He had to overcome both these difficulties. He found that one of the important features of his therapy had to be the hourly administration of fresh vegetable juices. These supply ample nutrients, as well as fluids to help flush out the kidneys. When the high levels of nutrients re-enter tissues, toxins accumulated over many years are forced into the blood stream. The toxins are then filtered out by the liver. The liver is easily overburdened by the continuous release of toxins and is unable to release the load. Dr. Gerson found that he could provide help to the liver by the caffeine in coffee, absorbed from the colon via the hemorrhoidal vein, which carries the caffeine to the portal system and then to the liver. The caffeine stimulates the liver/bile ducts to open, releasing the poisons into the intestinal tract for excretion.”

Some of the blunt, uncompromising statements this movie makes are certain to get up the medical profession’s collective nose. Too bad for them, for Dr. Gerson was right. And as for Charlotte, his daughter, her entire life has been immersed in healing people, first learning while assisting her father, and later teaching his method to the world.

I personally have seen what the Gerson program can do for a terminally ill cancer patient. I have been called upon to help in a couple of high-profile but last minute cases. One patient was a well-known sports figure. He was given some months to live and was not happy about it, as he was still in his 50s. He asked what his best shot would be for inoperable, untreatable metastasized cancer. I told him: the Gerson therapy. He did it, not in its entirety, but with enthusiasm. And, he lived considerably longer that he was expected to. But what really impressed me was the dramatic improvement in his energy level. From fatigue and weakness, he went instantly to a vibrant life, commencing from the very week he started the program. He maintained a more-than-full schedule for so long that even people who knew he was sick forgot that he was sick.

Years later, people that never knew of my involvement in the matter would bring up his name, invariably recalling how active he was and how good he looked until, almost as a surprise, he died.

I saw a similar level of success with a prominent New York businessman, the owner of a chain of stores and afflicted with untreatable liver cancer. He began to do much, but by no means all, of the Gerson program, and was subsequently able to extensively travel the world with his family. He lived years longer than expected, with a high quality of life confirmed by all who saw him.

Looking only at these two patients, wanton critics of Gerson’s method might think that, without complete and unequivocal cure, there is little to crow about. Such a view is unproductive, for neither of these patients followed the Gerson program completely. It is a tough sell, even to a person with a terminal diagnosis.

Why is this?

Ignorance and arrogance make a bad combination, and “modern” medicine has been guilty of both for decades. Political physicians did not heed Dr. Gerson. In fact, they publicly condemned him. The news media, and some so-called “consumer” websites, have been their willing accomplices. The misinformation they spew to this day is fraught with fabricated frights of natural therapies, while in the same breath they spew forth the wonders of pharmaceutical drugs. When is the last time you saw a favorable mention of the Gerson program in the newspaper or on TV? Since pharmacological doctors have no sure-fire cure for cancer (an understatement if there ever was one), they might at least back a winning horse. According to peer-reviewed research, conventional chemotherapy contributes 2.3% to five year survival in Australia and a mere 2.1% in the US. (Morgan, Ward and Barton. Clinical Oncology, 2004. 16: 549-560) The Gerson approach has been shown, for over six decades, to significantly improve both quality of life and length of life in the sickest, the most hopeless, of cancer patients. Many people have been completely cured on the Gerson therapy. Not all, but many. Far, far more than with chemo.

Some years ago I watched a video tape of a Gerson patients’ “reunion.” On stage were people from all walks of life, and most were advanced in age. One after the other they spoke of the cancer they were diagnosed with three, ten, or twenty years ago. All were recovered. Dr. Gerson was the reason. You cannot watch such an event and fail to be moved.

Charlotte Gerson is 87 now (2009) and fit as a fiddle. I’ve met her many times. She glows with energy and vivaciousness and life. But what is much more important, so do the vast majority of Gerson patients. I urge you to watch this movie.

This documentary reveals a simple truth to healing ourselves. You are what you eat…eat to live…food is the best medicine…all of these well-known conepts, when put into practice, really work! I have a relative who was cured of cancer through the Gerson Therapy in Mexico. She is in her ninties now!

Michael has so mighty talent. Obliging album and superior VHS. I honest descovered this page on amazon and I hope that a DVD version will be avaliable. I am writing the first review so hopefully I can net a certificate so I can earn it as soon as possible. The DVD should hold the same stuff that the VHS one contains (maybe the publishers may attach in more features) The video (and assumingly the DVD as well) contains all but 3 songs from the Uncertain album (I Can’t Let Her Catch Away, She Drives Me Wild, & Sustain The Faith) .

Of the three Pasolini DVD’s recently released by Waterbearer, Oedipus Rex is probably the best not only in its transfer, but in the film itself.

That being said, the transfer is tranquil far from tall. The matting is off, although nowhere reach as badly as it is on Porcile. The colors are old and the film is pitted and scratched, but again, nowhere as badly as on the Porcile disc. My main complaint is (as it was with Savor Meetings) that the burned-in (not optional) subtitles are white, and are impossible to read in many parts of the washed-out transfer.

That being said, this is one of Pasolini’s strongest films, and is definitely worth watching, whether you’re a cinephile, a Pasolini fan, or a classical scholar. Casual viewers may be establish off by Pasolini’s style which, admittedly, is an acquired taste, but more open-minded viewers will be greatly rewarded. Again, it’s doubtful that these films will glimpse better editions any time soon, so if you’re fervent, there’s no reason to wait around.

Oedipus Rex (1967) is Pasolini’s opulent and riveting adaptation of the mature memoir of Oedipus, a man who unknowingly kills his father and marries his mother; simultaneously, it is a entertaining reflection of the filmmaker himself. Although Sophocles’ 2,500-year-old play forms the basis for the film’s second half, Pasolini’s prologue is startlingly autobiographical. He opens in early 20th century Fascist Italy, while using the myth’s characters to recreate his parents’ relationship and his gain birth. He then takes us to a mythic feeble world, filmed primarily in Morocco, with large desert landscapes and blooming native architecture (Thebes is a massive city made of adobe, which feels genuinely faded and precise) . Pasolini brings a grandeur and narrative sweep to his Oedipus Rex, despite its petite budget, even as he gives tubby weight to the intimate moments.

The film draws tremendous power comes from the completely naturalistic performances, ranging from the leads to the minor characters (Pasolini plays a High Priest) . Silvana Mangano (Mrs. Dino De Laurentiis) is outstanding as Jocasta, Oedipus’s enigmatic mother/wife. Her stone-like face suggests intense erotic heat with the shrimp wrinkling of a lip. My major reservation with the film is Franco Citti as Oedipus. He appeared in seven films for Pasolini (including the title role in Accatone), and was usually exceptional, but here he brings a too-consistent harsh tone to his role. Of course, Citti’s monolithic settle, as both Oedipus the boy (who cheats to catch a discus match) and king, may be Pasolini’s point. Namely, since Oedipus refuses to grow, to near to an integrated belief of who he is and what his society needs him to be, he destroys himself by willful blindness.

Visually, Oedipus Rex draws spacious force from its brilliant palette and exhaust of the harsh Moroccan sunlight, not to mention its breathtaking, sometimes infamous sense of style. Yet the literal clarity of the film does not obscure its dreamlike qualities. Pasolini wanted to film the yarn as something which takes state in an authentic setting, yet which unfolds in a period outside of historical time. Even the eclectically multicultural soundtrack, with folk music from traditions as startlingly diverse as Japan and Rumania (and this was twenty years before the popularity of “world music”), helps conclude Pasolini’s ambitious goal.

Intriguingly, the trusty protagonist of the film is Pasolini himself, who subtextually takes on Freud’s (in) illustrious Oedipus Complex. As he said, “I wanted to originate … a kind of completely metaphoric – and therefore mythicized – autobiography; and … to confront both the problems of psycho-analysis and the plight of the sage.” (In the half hour documentary on Pasolini included on the DVD, one illuminating allotment is devoted to his views on Oedipus Rex.)

Revisionist Freudianism aside, this film succeeds in bringing both Oedipus and his world astonishingly to life. This Oedipus Rex is intelligent because it works simultaneously on so many different levels. For people unique to Pasolini, this representative film is an obliging station to launch. In terms of its impact on film history, you can glance its influence on pictures as diverse as Fellini Satyricon (1969), Norman Jewison’s Jesus Christ Superstar (1973), and Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) . It shows Pasolini grappling with some of the knottiest themes of his films, and of most people’s lives, namely the relationship of men and women, of child and parents, and of one man to himself. And it is at once a work of despicable effect and deep feeling, a semi-camp chronicle with beneficial mythic resonance.

The DVD is of very suited quality, especially considering the film’s age. However, the Pasolini Foundation in Rome, which controls the rights, insisted that the U.S. distributor release the DVD without any chapters (i.e., it’s in one continuous track), to assist people to recognize the film in its entirety. Level-headed, it’s significant to have this crucial piece of Pasolini’s filmography on DVD.

First, the suitable news: this movie is unbelievable. The opening riot scene is so realistic it’s scary. The anecdote, the artwork, the visuals, the soundtrack, all ample. Some have complained it’s too unimaginative. I don’t know why. There’s no need to complain about how long it takes to find from Point A to Point B if the hotfoot is as involving as this one is. It’s an expedient anime that is not too hard to follow (looking at the personnel flowchart helps support track of who’s who), yet it shows an intelligence and complexity far above the typical anime offering. And the visuals are so heavenly, so realistic. Even the muted color method is evocative of the tone of the movie.

So, why only 4 stars? Well, if you rob the 2-disc Special Edition, I have one question: How’s your Japanese? Oh, the menu for the extras disc is in English, but all the interviews, everything, is in Japanese. No alternate audio. No subtitles. All Japanese all the time. Please mark that the movie has both English audio and subtitles (as well as the unique Japanese), but the extras disc does not. So, unless you advise fluent Japanese, establish your money and fair rob the single-disc movie-only version.

I unbiased saw this film in theaters.It has got to be the most emotional film that got to me since perhaps Schindler’s List. JIN-ROH, THE WOLF BRIGADE could maybe be described as a “politico-military worship tragedy thriller”. Produced by the illustrious studio Production I.G., with a script by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), this is a very strong debut for young director Hiroyuki Okiura.

This film looks fantastic from beginning to extinguish. Unfortunately, this may be the last anime movie to be done using hardly any computer assistance. The anime employs over 80,000 hand-painted cells and has taken 3 years to accomplish. The character designs are salubrious and individualistic(characters actually seek Japanese.No gargantuan eyes to be found) . There is mammoth attention to detail in the movements of the people and objects on conceal. Everything moves realistically down to the last motion. I also liked the shadowy and muted color arrangement. There were many instances where I could inquire of if I was watching animation or not. In fact, I reflect this movie looks more realistic than the exact world.

The sound is favorable. There is sound everywhere in this film from the dusky and creepy sounds of the tunnels to the chirping birds flying through the town. The guns old by the Panzers sound *powerful*, the cars cough, and the trees rustle. Like the animation, everything is done down to the last detail.

The music is written by Hajime Mizuguchi (Please Keep My Earth/Vision of Escaflowne) which is melancholic, eerie and gorgeous. It fits the film perfectly. I only wish that there was more of it since the film doesn’t have mighty music in it. Everything is well quiet and creates the perfect atmosphere for the scene it’s in. I gain the OST myself and listen to it almost everyday. The one track that I know will stick in your head is the ending theme which was unexcited by Yoko Kanno (Macross Plus/Vision of Excaflowne) . The ending theme brought me to tears the first time I heard it in the movie (which I’d like to stamp is sung by Gabrielle Robin) . I highly recommend that you capture the soundtrack.

All of the Japanese express actors voices fit perfectly and every boom expresses the character’s emotions. From the icy and serious issue of Fuse to the mild and proper enlighten of Kei, this film delivers some tremendous deliver acting.

The version of the film I saw in theaters was English dubbed but it was done carefully and each of the voices fit the characters excellently.

Jin-roh tells a dismal legend, of the tragedy of the failure of the human spirit. The device out seems to be there, but is it? The fairy anecdote must advance its ending. A wolf is detached a wolf even if for a while he can masquerade as a man. Hopefully this movie will be released soon in the US so more people can experience it uncommon and gloomy beauty.

Syriana 100% accurate in it’s portrayal of oil, CIA, and terrorism.
Former CIA officer Robert Baer’s book “See No Evil” inspired the film Syriana, about the Middle East, the oil industry and espionage. For people to comment that it is just conspiracy theory is totally ignorant and ridiculous. While the story is fictional, it accurately portrays all sides and why they each belief their actions are just. It does a great job of allowing the viewer to understand every player in the game and empathize with them to an extent. In no way am I condoning terrorism, but we need to understand why young men are willing to blow themselves up. It isn’t simply about religion, it is far more complex than that, much of it having to do with blowback from U.S. intervention in their countries to control oil. Many people in this part of the world are suffering and turn to Islamic extremism, even terrorism, in an act of desperation.

One person commented that Canada is our largest supplier of oil, but they failed to mention that Saudi Arabia is a close second. Without their oil our economy would collapse because Canada can’t possibly provide enough oil to meet our demands. Also not mentioned is that the world has reached peak oil production and oil reserves in the American continents, as well as Europe, and Africa are going to dry up by 2025. After that the only place left on earth that will have oil reserves is Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, and a few other Middle Eastern countries.

Saudi Arabia has the largest oil reserves of any country in the world. They have 25% of the world’s reserves which dwarfs that of any other country. Thus they will be the last to have it, which makes them very important and powerful. Quite possibly to our detriment unless we wean ourselves off of it.

Don’t leave your brain at the door.
Sure, it’s full of conspiracy. But, even those of us who normally don’t subscribe to the depth of our government’s involvement (covert) in other governments should be scared by the content of this movie.
