But in fact, the tightly-woven myth of “Noein” succeeds in everything it attempts — an eerie, other-dimensiony storyline with some complex characters and well-placed comedy. The animation is a bit simple, but the narrative it’s wrapped around is complex and well-developed.

Months later, Haruka goes on a ghost hunt with her pals Ai, Miho, Isami and the timid Yuu. Then Karasu appears, and identifies Haruka as the Dragon Torque. As he battles another Dragon Knight, the deranged Atori, Haruka finds that she can unintentionally manipulate time and position. And Karasu seems eerily familiar — turns out he’s Yuu from the future.

Soon the town is swarming with Dragon Knights, all trying to catch Haruka — except for Karasu, who vows to protect her with his life. And when the Knights kidnap Haruka encourage to their dimension, La’cryma, she finds that their world is OUR future — a ruined planet being slowly destroyed by the dimension Shangri-la. And her captors are future versions of her friends, Isami and Ai.

Things don’t improve noteworthy after Karasu manages to amble her serve to Earth, and hides in her spare room. Haruka and her friends have to deal with more Dragon Knights, a quantum physicist, and a mysterious masked figure — Noein — wants Haruka for himself. And Karasu has to deal with Fukurou, a future version of Isami — to maintain Haruka genuine, he’ll have to fight his oldest friend to the death.

To protect her world — and her beloved Karasu/Yuu — Haruka will do anything. But she hasn’t reckoned with the devious Noein, and the horrifying secret that drives him to unite all the dimensions…

“Noein” is a magnificent densely plotted explain — coming-of-ages, apocalyptic battles, personal struggles, and action-packed sci-fi. And the all-too-human characters are explored in detail. All of this is expertly woven together, along with some residence twists that only discontinuance when the record is complete.

Fortunately, it has more than objective clever writing — it’s fleshy of exquisitely sparkling visuals (Karasu’s healing, Noein’s fortress), bittersweet memories, and sweetly amusing scenes (Atori regressing into a childlike set) . In a plan, the sweeter scenes construct the struggle against Shangri-la even more harrowing.

And it’s loaded down with action — lots of high-voltage fight scenes, including kinetic air battles, falling capture cars, exploding buildings, bug-eyed guru-ships invading our world, and some holes in the universe. And though the dialogue isn’t exactly littered with quotables, it has some spacious lines (“Even if we are being killed, we can serene pretend it’s not happening!”) .

Most of the characters are given microscopic moments to shine, but the main trio takes center stage. Haruka and Yuu form spacious protagonists: one is upbeat and beneficial, and the other is dismal because of his mother’s obsessions. And Karasu is an absolutely glorious anti-hero, whose shadowy personality is even more striking when you realize that he’s a future Yuu who has lost everything he loved.

And the supporting characters are almost as grand — the athletic Ai, flaky Miho, and wannabe tough-guy Isami. These three are totally lovable, and it’s painful to study their lives disintegrate in one potential future. And attention is also given to the psycho-turned-amnesiac Atori, the collected Tobi, as well as Yuu’s unfortunate mother.

As for the dub, almost all the actors are genuine, and Crispin Freeman is nothing short of phenomenal as the tortured Karasu — rough, raw, anguished, and sometimes a wee bit tender. The only worn spots, really, are a hammy Bryce Papenbrook and Cindy Robinson with a Southern accent so strong you could demolish cinder blocks with it.

Noein has a few exciting stale spots, but the storyline is a peerless blend of complex sci-fi, quantum physics, and care for. A magnificent, harrowing myth.

This box station takes the five individually released DVDs and puts them into one package. The first four discs believe five episodes, while the fifth disc contains only four.

The first disc was the best when it came to bonus features. The second and third disc had decent features. The fourth and fifth discs, however, were a disappointment. It felt like they achieve too many special features on the first disc, and then ran out of features and were forced to bid a feature from the first disc.

The series itself is very well done, and I would recommend this box space. For fans of Noein, this is definitely the device to go procure the bulky series. Instead of having to pay $90-$100 to steal up all five DVDs individually, you can steal this box spot for about $40.

Based on the very well-liked and successful TV series, “Cowboy Bebop: The Movie” is one piquant thrill slide that really shows how effective anime can really be when it is done correctly. It’s hard to assume of a cartoon being so action-packed and piquant, but this movie does a heavenly job of doing impartial that. A miniature warning; although this is an keen feature, the movie is rated R. While it is certainly more unruffled than most anime, the movie does possess violence and language. I don’t reflect this is anything for very young children, but I don’t look a reason why older teens shouldn’t be able to appreciate it.

The DVD has some nifty features to offer. First off, the narrate quality is Heavenly. Extras included are featurettes, music videos, storyboard comparisons, trailers and more. You can also glance it in the unusual Japanese audio track or the dubbed English one. I have to say, they do a ample job of dubbing it in English. If you’re not a fan of subtitles, then check it out in English. Overall, a very frigid DVD package.

If you’re looking for a wild and curious budge filled with humor and thrills, “Cowboy Bebop: The Movie” is unbiased for you. Again, you do not have to have seen the sincere TV series to understand the characters or the sage. The movie does a ravishing job of standing on its enjoy. Spike, Jet, Faye and Ed go after a Bio-terrorist worth a LOT of money. Genuine music from commence to kill (quit for the credits), with lots of humor and the characters are the same ones we admire from the series, no changes like they do with other anime characters when they attach them onto the broad camouflage. Pleasing camera shots, ample quality work and you can negate they spent a lot of time working on the details. When the DVD comes out with lots of extras and both subtitles and dubbing in the English, you can BET your life I’m going to hold it. If you can’t wait the DVD is already out from Japan (English subtitles only) .

This is the film adaptation of what might be the best graphic fresh I`ve ever read. There are no words to relate how powerful I esteem the novel comical book so I attended the North American premiere of Tekkon Kinkreet at the Moma in NY with high expectations.

Not only did the movie not fail to meet them but in fact added spellbinding and unexpected layers to the narrative. I am an animator; I`m rarely delighted with the technical aspects of most inviting features but the production on Tekkon is flawless. The animation, character make, backgrounds and camera work are all top notch. The two main characters are rendered in all their complexity and the movie doesn’t skittish away from the deep implications that the unique chronicle holds within its pages.

The movie is faithful to the silly book and the storyline is basically the same. However, Michael Arias and studio 4C were sometimes inventive, albeit in appropriate and creative ways. The modern uniforms of the three warriors that Snake sends to waste Dismal and White are shapely and reminiscent of a Moebius illustration- the final confrontation between Dusky and the two remaining warriors is held in the amusement park instead of the car-shelter dwelling (which makes room for unique dynamic shots) – but my common shift from the modern material has to be the minotaur sequence. A lot of people complained that the movie is not as audacious as Mind Game (studio 4C`s previous adventure into elephantine length features) but I disagree – the animation gets very experimental during the minotaur scene showing the thin line between reality and Black’s violence saturated subconscious. I loved the blueprint they communicated the internal struggle by using the graphic language of animation alone.

Overall, Mind Game’s pastiche of animation styles is probably more valiant but Tekkon more than compensates for it’s more rigorous style with incredibly strong characters (MG characters came off as a exiguous wacky at times) and a epic that is so top-notch that it hurts. If your eyes are not wet by the time Dim and White come by separated you are a soul-less fiend and you may want to mediate a career in advertising.

I haven’t been so enraged about an anime since Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence hit the theaters; it’s a shame that while it was one of the most famous movies of the year in Japan, Tekkon Kinkreet got very diminutive distribution in Europe and in the US – so do yourself a favor and prefer this DVD!

If you like Akira (Special Edition) or Ghost in the Shell, and view they were good masterpieces despite their ambiguous style of storytelling, then you’ll cherish Tekkon Kinkreet. It’s as upright an anime as there ever was: it follows its beget style of storytelling, it has spellbinding, even endearing characters, and the art is fair ravishing. It sits comfortably next to some of the best anime ever to approach to the States.

Tekkon Kinkreet follows two young boys, known around the city as the Cats, but to each other they are Dim and White. Murky is a brooding, violent youngster with a gift for taking injure and dishing it out. White is, simply, special; he’s empathic, enjoys life, and has a deep sense of when things aren’t true. He also seems to be magically gifted. That gift, however, has left White an innocent boy, incapable of growing up and acting his age; that’s why Murky feels obligated to protect the young boy, and the that means eliminating any possible threat to him and White, as well as the city in which they live. Thus, these two have a few enemies, including the Yakuza, some odd and noteworthy alien assassins, and a mysterious creature known by the youth in the city as the “Minotaur.” All the while, the two are continually robbing and mugging those within their city so that they can effect White’s dream of living in a house on a beach….

Yeah, spirited, I know. But what makes the anecdote of Tekkon Kinkreet that noteworthy better is the surreality of the whole thing. It doesn’t try to define much; it doesn’t have to. White and Gloomy can race at tall speeds and leap ten feet into the air; aliens exist; and a boy has the power to link himself mentally to his best friend. Why? Because they do…. And all the while, it’s as fantastically believable as a well told fantasy modern.

Outside of that, the art and characters of Tekkon Kinkreet helps to drive the myth along. The settings contains so powerful detail that it’s impossible to rep anything. If this was a “Where’s Waldo” drawing, you’d never rep him. The character art is also fine, reminiscent of the short sequence in Destroy Bill, Volume 1.

Now, for the one drawback (which many older anime fans wouldn’t even believe as a drawback) : this will be a very difficult anime for a new-comer to procure into. The epic isn’t difficult to follow, but it can be confusing and the ending leaves a lot unanswered, as is the wont of anime. Peaceful, though, if you have some experience with anime, then you won’t be disappointed. The art is elegant, the myth is enthralling, and the characters are endearing. I’d rate it higher if it were possible. Tekkon Kinkreet is definitely one of the best anime ever.

In high school, it’s hard to invent an identity and stand out without being an outsider but for Haruhi Suzumiya, she enjoys her offbeat sensibilities. Declaring in school that she’s not involved in anyone unless they’re time travellers, aliens or espers (psychics in other words), Haruhi soon is introduced to Kyon, a sardonic high school student who enjoys objective not doing anything. But their world gets changed when in comes Itzuki, Yuki and Mikuru, an esper, alien and time traveller, respectively. Turns out Haruhi is seen as a sort of god-like figure who can bend the universe and possibly even waste it and begin over lest she procure bored. Luckily Haruhi is quite…eccentric.

One of the more renowned factors mediate the display was that the show’s episodes were not presented in chronological order. While this worked in some cases such as episode 6 having all the makings of a “finale” and episode 11 which consists of Kyon narrating over a supremely amateurish movie Haruhi made makes for a fresh and also bizarre premiere but then on the other hand, a 2 parter on an island vista is separated by a different episode so the cliffhanger isn’t resolved until the following episode. As for the episodes themselves, they’re frequently hilarious from dialogue to Kyon’s narration or Yuki’s calm badassness/bookish tendencies and fair scenes played straight for comedy or using the moe conventions of nurse/maid/catgirl outfits for humor. But the main place is also absorbing and while Yuki’s explanation of Haruhi’s existence from her perceptive is Evangelion-level confusing complete with screen-filling text, it’s quite bright and the belief that the world can literally revolve around you makes for fine storytelling. Some episodes are generally capable with at least one frosty scene while others such as an arts festival, a computer battle or the hilarious baseball episode are definate highlights.

Will everyone like it? Maybe. Some people take the romance hilarity found in Treasure Hina while others are into more lighthearted affairs like Fruits Basket but I loved the note and can’t wait for an inevitable second season and I heartily recommend you try the explain out.

When I read about the reveal it seemed like a Breakfast Club meets X-Files kinda of indicate. Me being a fan of the anime comedy genre, I decided to give it a inspect. It’s been almost four years since I first saw Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and wrote my review for Amazon.com. After seeing the fresh complete version on Blu-Ray, I plan I’d advance benefit and offer my thoughts only to behold that my current review was transferred over from the DVD edition. That review was written at a different time, before the DVD was even released in the States. I idea about going befriend and revising it, but that’d be changing the past. What I will add are my thoughts on the unusual Blu-Ray edition.

Firstly, if you’re looking at the Blu-Ray edition, wondering if it’s a great occupy, it definitely is. It’s a distinguished trustworthy version to the unique, both in allege and clarity. Obviously, with the Blu-Ray the recount quality and sound quality have been considerably increased. There’s a few cramped nitpicks, such as a vivid, aliasing jam that pops up every now and then (The Resident Evil: Degeneration Blu-Ray had a similar jam) and it can be distracting. But the details are so grand clearer now that it looks like a modern movie.

Additionally, original snort has been added to this release. A lot of times, “director’s cuts” can be detrimental to the film and the pacing, but in the case of Advent Children, I appreciated the original narrate. I gain there’s an additional 26 minutes added and these parts delve into the Geostigma and the origins of some of the characters as well as an extended fight between Cloud and Sephiroth. Overall, I consider the additions are useful and support execute the movie more of a movie and less an extended slice scene. It’s objective too poor that it didn’t near with a playable demo of Final Fantasy XIII like it did in Japan…

On to my modern review as it was assist in 2005:

Cloud, Tifa, Sephiroth, Marlene, Barret, Vincent. The names could go on. This series reigns in many Final Fantasy fans’ minds as being the best. Though in unique years a lot of people roll their eyes and say its over-rated (and it might be), for me, and for a lot of fans, Final Fantasy was a turning point in the genre not only in terms of graphics and presentation but also in memoir. I have been playing video games and RPGs since the very first NES. Final Fantasy VII was the first game that made me end and go, wait when did a video game become something more than unbiased pushing buttons?

Now we have the official sequel, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Advent Children is basically a cherish tag written for the fans of VII. Those who did not invest 40, 50, 60+ hours into the game will probably have no interest in it. But those who were fearful when (should I even say spoiler? ) Sephiroth murders Aeris, who have a deep connection to the characters, and over the 40-60+ hours grew so attached to them that to this day they quiet device fan art or peep for that elusive arrangement to gather Aeris befriend in game(it doesn’t exist, by the draw), this movie will mean something.

AC is a lovely CG movie taking region two years after the events of FFVII. While the ending of VII was climactic and exhilarating, providing a resolution of sorts to the people of Midgar, it did not provide a resolution, blissful or not, for Cloud. In fact, it left him empty and wound as we salvage in the beginning of Advent Children. What AC does is enact Cloud’s epic. Another reviewer here made a comment that he liked FFVII’s ending. I do too, don’t gather me unpleasant. But the one thing it didn’t do was demolish Cloud’s chronicle. For the length of the game, you have a deeply personal fable surrounded by the world anecdote and while the world got its ending, the people fervent did no, gloomy or not. As I said, AC ends Cloud’s chronicle with a bang. And it is damn well worth the wait.

I don’t mediate it would be fair of me to talk about what happens in AC. Share of the fun and surprise is to recognize how well it fits together, brings memories of the video game and works to effect an emotional core. I will retain the review as spoiler free as possible because I know I’m tired of reading reviews where people stick in something that can waste the whole movie.

For those who didn’t play or leer FFVII, this movie will not have worthy resonance since it’s basically for the fans, both die-hard and casual. Those who loved FFVII will more than likely like this movie. AC is basically an action movie and the action is spectacular although the dull motion was ragged (while effectively) a minute considerable. The sword play, the battles and the action is all directed with style oozing everywhere. The characters are all inviting exceedingly well and the animators did a tall job in making PS1 characters into spectacular CG. The musical gain varies for me from being expedient to objective okay. By far, the best moments are ones I can’t talk about aurally for apprehension of spoiling surprises. Needless to say, the music is at its greatest when it brings in hints of FFVII, the video game.

There are a lot of connections to both VII and the Final Fantasy series as a whole. From moogle dolls to The Turks, the game oozes both FFVII and FF; although I was disappointed in not seeing any chocobos, there are a few moments that made up for it. One in particular revolves around the games Waste Battle Theme. Hilarious, laugh out loud scene. There are some minor annoyances. A couple of the scenes felt episodic and not connected. Some scenes were directed very well and lead into each other or intercut between each other. But there are a couple scenes that stand out because they didn’t feel attached to what was going on. In fact, it felt as if they were cleave scenes from a video game. Did this detract from the movie? Not in the least, but its there nonetheless.

What surprised me the most with this movie is that it wasn’t done to milk the saga. I mean, of course its there to invent money, and FFVII is a mountainous design to do it because of fans’ worship for it. Anything in the business world is made around making money. But what I mean exactly is best represented in FFX-2. I am one who did not accept FFX-2 at all bright. In fact it is the only FF game I gave up on. It felt like it was a procedure of milking FFX for a dinky more money while the wait for FFXII kept getting longer and longer. However, AC is so intrinsically related to VII that it has a heart and emotion that I haven’t seen in many movies released this year. I felt chills from the very opening moments as the narrator explained some of the events from VII and we scrutinize a flashback of Sephiroth standing in front of flames. And that was honest the originate of the thrills; there are scenes both emotional and thrilling to be found throughout the 1 hour 40 minutes of the film. And what elated me above all else was that Cloud’s tale finally received a perfect resolution.

I contemplate most fans have been hoping and wishing that Aeris would return and I judge the creators give a grand retort to this in this movie. I won’t spoil the ending, I won’t negate you who does and doesn’t return. But I will notify you the resolution is damn well awesome and probably the most satisfying ending to what is by far many people’s current (if clichéd) choice for the Final Fantasy series. I do need to do a plea and I apologize for it, but if you downloaded this movie (like a positive reviewer did *cough*) please attend it when it comes out here in the States and take it. We need to display befriend to Square-Enix that this is the kind of sequel we want to survey. They spent a long time and a lot of money making a movie that is scream to DVD here in the states. We need to return the favor and succor it.

Square-Enix, my hats off to you for handling this with flair, tenderness and sympathy for the characters.

About the Film:

I followed Advent Children closely from the first time it was announced some time in 2004. I am a die-hard Final Fantasy fan, and although I would have preferred the sequel to one of the greatest games of all time (Final Fantasy VII) to be, well, a game, I was glad to peep the anecdote continued in a medium with slightly more widespread appeal. Although the writers made an wretchedness to allow this movie to stand on its enjoy, people who have played the game (and remember the status and characters) will certainly glean considerably more out of it.

About This Release:

In production since about 2006, this version of the film, subtitled “Complete” is the Japanese equivalent of a director’s crop. In addition to a current high-definition transfer of the film several scenes have been extended or reworked and current scenes have been added to further round out the sage and provide more visual flash. It may not seem like noteworthy while watching it, but in total the film has been extended by fully a third taking it from 90 minutes to 2 hours running time.

Visuals:

Although respectable, I have to say I was expecting more from the High-Definition release of this movie. My first misgiving is with the inconsistent visual quality. The newly added scenes are generally presented with the kind of titillating visual detail that HD enthsiasts have approach to inquire. The older scenes, while clearly providing more detail than the DVD release, are missing the clarity that right HD material is superior of, often appearing fuzzy or out of focus. It is not generally noticeable, but it does become an definite annoyance in a couple of scenes. Arguably this could have been done on purpose, adding a “fuzzy” filter for ambiance, but I doubt they would have intentionally added upscaling artifacts which are explain in this film. The most famous instance I can take is during Tifa’s scenes, particularly in the church; the aliasing on her hair is more reminiscent of a DVD being upscaled to 1080p than of a original render done in 1080p.

Little touches have been added to further “sell” the quasi-realism that this film is striving to attain. During battles characters’ faces accept dirty, during one scene flecks of dust in the air created miniature shimmers.

Story:

While the same record is being told, the added/extended scenes and to an extent the visual enhancements do add a different slant on the position of Advent Children. While the main points of the narrative remain unchanged, the position is made clearer and sure elements which seemed random or unimportant pick on modern meaning.

For example, during a scene a girl carrying a stuffed moogle comes up to Denzel and holds out her hand for him to follow. In the fresh DVD release, this is really all we gape of her, but in the “Complete” release we pick up to spy an earlier scene that reveals she is really trying to originate an apology to Denzel for being coarse before.

Denzel plays a powerful more prominent role in this version. It was never determined to me what it was that Cloud was so busy doing before I saw this release, but in this version it is revealed that he was out looking for a cure to the Geostigma so he could support Denzel.

In the DVD release, the Geostigma seemed like exiguous more than a charcoal colored rash that slowly killed people. In this version it is considerable more irascible, causing sores that ooze sticky dim sludge and induces violent convulsions and vomiting of the same dark sludge.

I’ll leave the spoilers at that, but I’ve only revealed a couple of the dozen or so area augmentations that this version of the film brings to the table. Most of them gave me that “Ooooh that’s what they meant. I earn it now.” feeling. Maybe I’m unprejudiced unimaginative, but a lot of these things weren’t certain to me in the film’s current presentation.

Sound:

This film really benefits from the expanded HD audio – more so if you have the equipment to properly decode the newer HD audio formats, but even when down sampled to Dolby Digital, the sound is richer and has remarkable fewer compression artifacts. Some of the music has been remixed slightly and it seems like I heard one or two additional compositions. Many of the songs were written to lock in with positive scenes, and when the scenes were extended, so was the music. I was very impressed with how seamless it all seemed.

Voice acting is one of those things, like pizza toppings, that nobody seems to be able to agree on. I have never been terribly picky about impart acting, but since everyone is different I’ll attempt to provide some frame of reference for my thought. My plan of terrible roar acting is the Devil May Yowl anime, and my notion of splendid squawk acting is Cowboy Bebop. I believe the command acting is advantageous in Advent Children. I was particularly cheerful to hear the voices chosen for the ancillary characters like Barret, Cait Sith, Red XIII, Yufie, Vincent and Cid. But the actors chosen for main characters Cloud, and Tifa were very pleasurable matches for what I imagined the characters from the game would sound.

Extras:

This review is of the Japanese release, and frankly I did not really care enough about the extras to check them out. I watched them once when the DVD release came out and can’t be bothered to do it again. This does near with an additional involving “episode” about Denzel. For those of you who want to know absolutely everything there is to know about how a movie was made, you will not be disappointed with the depth.

For me the steady attraction in the extras was the inclusion of the Final Fantasy XIII playable demo. Since the PS3 is location free, the Japanese release is very import good. (If you don’t mind that it is all in Japanese) The U.S. release mentions a Final Fantasy XIII “preview”. I don’t know if that means that it will be a demo, or an extended trailer. It would be a shame if it was the latter.

Final Thoughts:

I wish all “director’s nick” releases could enhance the recent presentation as well as Advent Children Complete does. The extra footage catapulted this already grand movie firmly into the category of awesome. If you didn’t devour the first release because you fair didn’t “win it” then this release may be objective what you need to achieve the pieces together as many of the more vague areas of the place are clarified. If you loved the first one, then you’ll treasure this one even more. About the only thing it is missing is the ability to discover the recent release version of the film. Personally that isn’t an notify for me but it would have been a nice addition.

Although this review is for the Japanese release, I doubt powerful will change in the final U.S. version. My reasoning is that the the DVD release was nearly identical for the two territories, and there are only two months between Blu-ray releases.

This brilliant work by director Morris is the stuff of life. And death. It arouses the most basic moral and immoral questions of being human through an enormously complex and yet simple man, Robert Strange McNamara. It seems no coincidence, his middle name, as we get to know him in all his cleverness and contradictions. Morris subtly illuminates, literally through McNamara’s eyes, what it means to have power over life and death. Like God. There is something almost spiritual in McNamara’s eyes, edited against searing images of, well, graphs, statistics, memoranda, bursting firebombs and nuclear mushrooms, almost all rarely seen-before footage. The eyes are the soul of this film – McNamara’s are a combination of supreme confidence and extreme doubt. But not only his eyes – for example, we see President Kennedy’s eyes frozen in the lens as he tells the nation of imminent nuclear war in 1962, a look that would make a Marine shiver. This new interview technique (“interrotron” ) draws us into what? War? Peace? Honor? Life? Power? Evil?

Born 85 years ago, McNamara is the quintessential man of his time, what Brokaw called the greatest generation, a sobriquet this documentary underscores. In McNamara’s words he deplored the sorrow and pity of the four great wars of his lifetime; the trenches in France; the nuclear and indiscriminate firebombing of innocent Japanese; the debacle in Korea; the flaming jungles of Vietnam. His command of statistics is breathtaking. But it is the eyes that reveal an inner truth, the precise opposite of his concise, rational words – his 11 “lessons”. We see a man who never found himself in harm’s way. We see eyes so ironically blinded by a circa 1918 vision of duty and honor that, though he loathed the horrifics of Vietnam, he was compelled to allow his true judgment to go unexpressed until nearly 60,000 Americans were dead. He was at once perhaps the most powerful man in the world and its most despicable. It is easy to see why a brilliant young President Kennedy would choose someone as Defense Secretary who seemed so like himself, but tragically without the courage. And why, with Kennedy’s death, McNamara by sheer ambition and brilliance would ascend to the very pinnacle of power.

Yet, I couldn’t hate this guy. Perhaps the most telling moment is McNamara’s clear devastation at Kennedy’s assassination 41 years ago, again told in his eyes and a rare, emotional choking voice. So it’s difficult to blame him for all those deaths he might have prevented — McNamara genuinely believed he was doing the right thing for his Presidents: through an obsessive sense of duty and loyalty. Now that his day of legacy approaches, he expresses criticism over the actions of others — General LeMay and President Johnson are the favored targets. But McNamara cannot quite bring himself to admit his own mistakes of enormous proportions. Yet it’s quite clear that he was one of only two men who could have ended the 7-year slaughter (of his term in office). Many may find that failure a reason to despise the man. I found it just human.

This film offers up no easy answers (certainly not his 11 “lessons’), but more importantly raises many fundamental questions. Philip Glass’ elegiac, edgy scoring perfectly meshes with this thriller. An impressive and important contribution to understanding our nation’s ambivalent past.

You end up watching this man, a “talking head,” for so long. While there are a handful of shots of him driving what looks like a Ford Taurus past the Pentagon and a number of other government landmarks, almost all footage showing a contemporary Robert McNamara seems to be a single-camera setup.

He is trying to be honest, but does not promise to be self-revelatory. Others here speculate that it is his shot at redemption. If you know his work at Ford, you know that he’s not really a redemption kind of guy. Rather, he’s more a scientist or engineer. He want’s to contribute to a growing body of knowledge. He’s [obviously] not afraid to make mistakes, so long as they are cataloged and recorded.

So long as we all learn from them.

That’s why he made this film. There are moments of emotion – for example, when he talks about John Kennedy’s death. But it’s not a confessional. He says more than once, “I’m not going to go into this,” because it relates to private matters.

Watch his eyes. Watch how hard it is for him to do what he feels so strongly compelled to do: somehow add meaning to his experiences by teaching us. The pain his eyes express sometimes is at once awful and compelling.

I don’t think he made this movie to earn absolution. He’s the kind of guy who would claim absolution as a matter of right.

No, he wants us to learn, and to enable that by as much lucidity and honesty as he can muster. Most leaders don’t care enough about us to take this effort.

As much as a reasonable person could hate McNamara, I thank him for trying to teach us. It’s like hearing someone already in hell trying to offer a word of warning.

Errol Morris’s stunning documentary is about one of the 20th century’s most significant players: Robert McNamara, who reprises the highlights of his life and professional career. The movie covers a lot of ground, including McNamara’s stint as a Ford Motor Co. executive, his participation as a war planner in World War II, and his crucial involvement as secretary of defense under President John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and under Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson during the Vietnam War. There are some stunning revelations, including his role in the firebombing of Japan, as well as the nuclear face-off between the United States and Cuba. This is another brilliant coup for Morris, the inspired documentarian who has made a career out of conversations with the most fascinating subjects. One foggy day in a mid-sized Japanese city, the assistant instructor of a local dojo, Kaoru Kamiya, happens across someone she’s convinced is “the manslayer” responsible for a number of local murders — using a sword style taught in her gain school. And Sannosuke (aka “Zanza”), a street brawler and bare-knuckle fighter, also gets stirred into the mix. Yahiko makes constant fun of Kaoru’s looks (she’s certainly not the ghastly girl he makes her out to be, unless she’s snarling in madden at him), and Sannosuke’s weirdly laid-back arrive to everything drives her crazy. But their friendship and loyalty to each other is unquestionable.

The animation is advantageous for a TV display, with striking character designs, blazingly choreographed fights and some insanely comical bits of slapstick that arrive out of absolutely nowhere. The one blemish is the English dub track, which is OK, but Kenshin’s bizarre “Oro? ” really loses a lot in English — it’s translated something like “Wha-huh? ” Worse, Kenshin’s deliberately unfamiliar sentence structure doesn’t translate well into dialogue without a grand deal of awkwardness. I esteem them for trying, though.

This is a series that, as should most anime, be watched in Japanese, even if you struggle with subtitles. Kenshin’s inform is given a more manly flavor in the dubbed version, but this dulls a very distinguished do later on. Opponents are accorded the suitable amount of fight time: those less skilled are dispatched swiftly and with dinky grief as are those who are strong, but generally not smart. Only legal swordmasters can even advance finish to putting up a decent fight against his Hiten Mitsurugi sword style. This style relies heavily on analyzing your opponent’s moves, emotions, fighting ki and on captivating with godlike-speed. Kenshin is a particularly adept sword drawer, and has mastered the art of Battou-jutsu, drawing and killing the opponent in a single stroke, earning him the nickname Hitokiri Battousai.

But it IS an extremely long series, well worth enduring the insecure but famous first season to net to the violent and tragic second season, which is unrivaled by any other series. The topics are brutal: child abuse, drug exhaust, murderous betrayal and government ruthlessness. The series doesn’t timorous away from the killing or beating of children, women, and conventional people, or fair flat out mass death. It doesn’t reveal it in graphic or gratuitious fashion either; it’s all fraction of the show’s feel: how can you stand by and turn the other cheek when such atrocities are continuing? Nearly each character is well-developed, making the viewer earn attachment to both hero and villain, particularly the boy assassin Soujiro, whose record is incredibly heartwrenching. Each character has incredibly deep emotional scars — particularly the death of a loved one — and nearly each episode connects and builds until the ruin of the climactic second season.

Rurouni Kenshin is spacious, but not perfect. Once a quiet and efficient killer (as shown in the OAVs), Kenshin now delivers long speeches about killing before and after he fights. It gets repetitive after a while, but adds some tension. There are the occassional flashback and comedy-break episodes that don’t further the chronicle, such as the one including the Sumo wrestler Toramaru (skip it) . The third season ends abruptly, as it probably should have, the result of an extremely well-done second season that would surely overshadow any subsequent storylines. The music is a acquire it and leave it situation: the primary parts have broad music, the not so famous parts do not. The soundtrack varies from classical sounds to synthesized beats, and creates some subconscious unrest.

The current Seisou Hen space of OAVs actually does provide a sense of closure absent in many anime series (Neon Genesis, Trigun) . The art is similar to the Trust and Betrayal position, and even features many fights from the TV series re-done in great more realistic animation. The current fights aren’t as spectacular, but the emotion and the music are noteworthy stronger. These are must-haves…but only after viewing the TV series.

This is a great series that takes a stare at the struggle of man within. I recommend watching the TV series first, then the Samurai X movie, then watching the Trust and Betrayal OAVs, which affirm an improbable amount, then re-watching the TV series, then finishing with the Seisou Hen situation. Watching Trust and Betrayal beforehand will extinguish a lot for the viewer, so try and survey the series in the aformentioned order. Kazuki, who’s bear book sells moderately well, ends up coming to indulge in spending time with Aya: a disturbed girl he meets at a manga convention (Laughable Party) who hasn’t been having any success with her acquire book.

Cowboy Bebop is, by far, one of the best TV series to approach from Japan. Unbiased don’t consume it too seriously, it is, after all, the ’70s and the Wild West mixed into one (someone beat me to that punch already, damn!) One impartial needs to leer the Low-Rider/Horseback care hobble to search for that.

But it doesn’t near out the worse for wear mixing two wildly different genres, and the fifth DVD shows this off. Even after 21 episodes this demonstrate is more than fun to witness. Basically, if you’re wondering whether to win up this or something unusual, don’t worry: This has more of the same fun of the series.

Cowboy Bebop is, in this reviewer’s notion, the finest series that anime currently has to offer. The animation is friendly, the writing is consistently kindly, the English suppose work is amazingly ample, and the soundtrack (provided by Yoko Kanno) is absolutely vivid throughout the entire series. It’s a pity that the series had such a short run– what’s available in these six DVD volumes constitutes the entire twenty-six episode series. Nevertheless, this is one series every anime fan must have, and a series I would also recommend to fans of TV shows such as Miami Vice.

Cowboy Bebop’s basic structure allows each episode to be a full-fledged sage all its gain, with the main characters– Spike, Jett, Faye, and Edward– serving to connect them all. While there is a consistency to the entire series outside of the characters– mainly concerning each character’s exploration of his/her identity– this is a more episodic anime series than something such as Evangelion, and yet far less formulaic than Dragon Ball Z and its brethren. I cannot stress how incredibly edifying the writing is here– each episode is a self-contained myth tubby of integrity: sometimes dramatic, sometimes dim, sometimes droll, but always effective each time without sacrificing any of the show’s core values.

Each DVD disc in this series is a bargain– five episodes per disc for Volumes One and Two, and four episodes per disc thereafter. Extras are shrimp, but the video quality is outstanding, and both Japanese/English tracks are provided, with English subtitles. The English affirm acting is very impressive– dialogue is collected radiant following the translation, lip synching is dead-on, and the thunder actors are almost as endearing as the characters they picture.

While Volume Five is as mighty worth a rob as the other discs in this series, it has some obscene points that manage to hotfoot it down a bit. The main one that should be addressed is the “Pierrot le Fot” episode, which concerns a man bred as a perfect killing machine. While this episode contains a noteworthy fight scene, it’s one of the more flawed episodes of Cowboy Bebop; a backstory sequence serves to assume the viewer’s disdain for this episode’s villain suitable before said villain is killed and never mentioned again– similar to the case of an imprisoned criminal who is found to be innocent fair before he is executed, yet this information is judged to be insignificant afterwards because the criminal is already monotonous. … “Boogie Woogie Feng Shui” and “Wild Horses” are bright but largely forgettable relative to the other episodes in this series. “Cowboy Funk” is definitely the highlight of this disc: the character of Andy is hilarious, as is the Teddy Bomber.

Although there is nothing in the credits of Well-kept Gigantic PRIX or on the DVD case that would explain it, the film contained is an English-dubbed 92-minute anime movie compiled from the Japanese gripping TV series, “Arrow Emblem, Hawk of the Expansive Prix” (aka Arrow Emblem Great Prix no Taka), which ran for 44 episodes from 1977-78. The series tells the sage of young Sean Corrigan, nicknamed “Rupture,” a cocky American urge car driver based in Japan, who experiences a number of mishaps and failures and has to score his confidence wait on and learn to work with others before achieving his dream of winning a formula car racing championship. This version focuses on a handful of assume narrative arcs from the new, including Sean’s participation in a road rally in Japan; the building of his enjoy car and his test hurry down Mount Fuji(!) in a blistering snowstorm; and his participation in the Monte Carlo Alpine rally. The racing epic may not be of initial interest to many anime fans, although it’s actually quite inspiring throughout, not least because the focus is on an arrogant, but sympathetic American protagonist butting heads with Japanese colleagues, a theme usually only seen–and quite rarely–as a subplot in anime, but given center stage here.

More importantly, however, anime fans should check this out for the wealth of illustrative detail in the racing scenes. This is a far bawl from the more streamlined high-tech racing action found in the earlier “Rush Racer” (1967) series and it’s quite different from the CGI-created racing scenes in the more current “Initial D” (1998) . All created by hand-drawn cell animation, the hasten action in Trim Enormous PRIX is delineated with amazing care. The textures of the road surfaces are quite realistic and the movements of the extremely detailed cars are quite fluid for something made for TV in 1977. Sean’s car is built from scratch and it looks that draw. The surfaces view like they’ve been driven on and the cars ogle like they’ve seen a lot of action. Granted, the character designs are more standard for the era and they do win the characters from “Accelerate Racer” in deliberate ways. (There are Trixie, Spritle and Racer X counterparts here.) But, overall, the animation quality is quite a revelation for anime fans whose only exposure to 1970s anime is through some of the classic place series of that era.

The director of this series was none other than Rintaro, who went on to impart a number of major anime classics, including the two GALAXY Relate 999 movies; the apocalyptic thriller, HARMAGEDDON; the ninja masterpiece, DAGGER OF KAMUI; two episodes of SPIRIT WARRIOR; X: THE MOVIE, based on the Clamp manga; and the Osamu Tezuka adaptation, METROPOLIS.

This film was also released in an earlier VHS edition entitled, Wreck CORRIGAN: ONE MORE CHANCE. (For the describe, there was an staunch B-movie/western actor, active in Hollywood in the 1930s-’50s, known as Ray “Atomize” Corrigan, who even had his bear TV series, “Fracture Corrigan’s Ranch,” although there is no apparent relation to the character in the anime.)
