Well, I reviewed seasons 1 & 2 so here goes. “Slayers Try” is typically viewed as the weakest of the three seasons. This is almost certainly moral, but it’s serene Slayers, which is to say it’s awesome. If you’re a great Lina Inverse fan then think this yet another must-buy. If you’re not; well, this season won’t change your mind. The anecdote is one that spans the entire season rather than being broken up into smaller arcs as previous seasons were and many supporting characters are left in the dust as our well-known heroes move to parts unknown for this adventure, but the goofy character-driven humor and legend world-in-the-balance confrontations that are the series’ calling card are here with bells on. It’s slightly flawed, but it’s mild a must in my book.

The storyline this time out begins with the usual fateful meetings of our four heroes; Lina, Amelia, Gourry, and Zelgadis. They are hastily swept up in battle as a dragon attacks the city and wind up stranded at sea. The dragon in ask turns out to be the newest member of team Inverse: the dragon priestess Filia, sent to acquire Lina for a task of grave importance. This storyline, while occasionally poorly paced, turns out to be quite deep as Lina and company become pawns in a massive, multi-faction feud that spans dimensions and seems to have no true or nasty side. The considerable villain is a demon dragon named Gaav who turns out to be quite the tragic figure out to avenge the genocide of his people. This is some glowing deep fare for an anime that prides itself on characters who behave like savages around food and like to blow stuff up. Xellos makes his return with aplomb, but this time he’s no friend to Lina’s cause. His place as a demon puts him in protest conflict with Filia as dragons and monsters are natural enemies. The note uses this draw amusingly to instigate a potential romance (methinks the lady doth boom too distinguished) between the two mutual antagonists.
“Slayers Try” suffers from a definitive lack of the adorable Sylphiel, but Filia really filled the gap for me. Her prim and respectable ways acquire for comedy gold as she hasn’t quite mastered her human invent and often sprouts a tail when surprised, thus lifting up her robe and well…you net the portray. This awkwardness is milked for further amusement by giving Lina’s newest team member an oversized mace and an equally oversized temper with which to utilize it. Plus, she can turn into a dragon (the bow on her tail is adorable) ; honest not when anyone’s looking because, naturally, she loses her clothes in the process and she’s a very alarmed girl.

As I stated before, there are some pacing problems as will happen with series that don’t divide the larger stories into smaller ones. This season is broken up only by a flurry of episodes where the team is fragmented and each have a series of moronic standalone adventures. There is some large stuff there, but the one-offs were spread out more evenly and didn’t interfere with the larger plots in past seasons while these unprejudiced don’t fit. Even Lina -always the self-referencing type- at one point observes that maybe it’s time to conclude with the amusing stuff and procure down to business. The climax impresses, but is again broken up with some inappropriately-timed and redundant humor which causes Filia this time to admonish the writers..err characters to terminate screwing around. This self-aware humor helps keep for me what brought “Slayers Try” down a notch for some.
All-in-all, chalk this one up as another winner. This fresh place, like the others, is priced just and is remastered for your viewing pleasure. That doesn’t mean you should double-dip because, personally, I wish they’d impartial effect out a higher quality product to inaugurate with and finish torturing we diehard fans with this re-release nonsense. But this review is for the unusual Slayers fan and if you don’t have this series yet, now is the time. This is among my accepted absorbing comedy series of all time and I can’t recommend all three seasons enough to fantasy anime fans.
4 1/2 stars rounded up to hurry the wrath of the vast Lina Inverse!
Yup, they’re support — hot-tempered sorceress Lina, sword-swinging dunce Gourry, stone-skinned chimera Zelgadis, and justice-obsessed princess Amelia.
And while it’s not quite the sparkling walk that the previous seasons were, the third season “Slayers Try” is tranquil a solid share of work, filled with worn feuds, otherworldly weapons, revenge, a tea-drinking dragon, and a devastating threat from another universe.
With the Monster race’s barrier removed from the places we know, the gang reunites at a harbor where a coalition of kings — led by Prince Phil — are sending off an expedition into the Outer World. Lina and Gourry are there to meet Filia, a outlandish young woman who claims to have a mission for them. Then a Golden Dragon attacks, and Lina inadvertantly devastates the lickety-split and the harbor with her Dragonslave.
Set adrift on an abandoned ship, Lina and her pals slay up floating to the Outer World, where they encounter Filia (who is the Golden Dragon) once again. Eventually Filia reveals why she has done all this — a prophecy foretelling a poor trouble that may kill the world, which only Lina’s sister (or, if she’s not available, Lina) can conclude. Unfortunately the gang also have a current enemy — the vengeance-maddened Monster Valgaav, and a mysterious black creature who wants Gourry’s Sword of Light.
But after some depraved obstacles, Lina discovers the good intent of Valgaav’s fresh master — to kill the Gloomy Lord Darkstar (yeah, droll name), using five weapons including the Sword of Light. When a clash with Valgaav goes horribly contaminated, Lina and her friends demolish up scattered across the continent, with only a short time to discontinuance the insane Murky Lord from invading their world. And finding the last of the weapons to destroy Darkstar will buy them deep into the bloody past of the Golden Dragons…
“Slayers Try” doesn’t quite rep the spectacular heights of the previous two seasons, unbiased because the Spacious Poor Threat To The Universe is a bit cheesier. But otherwise it’s a solid adventure for Lina and her microscopic gang, with two overarcing storylines — the first half is all about finding out Valgaav’s status and the reason his master wants the Sword of Light, while the second is about dealing with the awe that is trying to reach into the Linaverse.
In the meantime, it has a complex and twisting storyline, burly of unique quests for knowing weapons and some Romeo-and-Juliet sidetrips. But this season also has a heavy dose of tragedy, mostly centering on the bloody genocide of the ancient Ragged Dragons, and the terror Filia feels when she finds out what happened. Their accelerate takes them through sun-baked villages, magic libraries, primitive snow-covered citadels, a mountain that looks like a pile of something dismal, a pair of eternally warring cities, and a series of islands with very queer inhabitants.
And of course, there’s humor. Lots of it. Aside from Xellos and Filia bickering like pros (“Ohhhh, I meant DRAGON, not person”), it has the usual bizarre scenarios and hilarious dialogue (“BIRD! ROAST CHICKEN!” a starving Lina shrieks as she tries to pluck a seagull) . And in the middle of the season, we salvage a string of episodes that are pure hilarity — skittish jars, a forbidden romance between a man and a fish, and Amelia and Gourry temporary becoming “Warriors of Justice” alongside some decayed frail heroes in humorous costumes.
The absolute highlight? A surreal Lewis-Carroll-style episode in which a befuddled Lina stumbles through a curious world of fiestas, hostile penguins (“Don’t interrupt our funeral!”), marionettes and a smarmy talking pig.
The “Slayers” characters feel like a foursome of musty, comfortable shoes — Lina is sulky and inclined to Dragonslave whenever possible, but turns out to be deadly disquieted of her sister (to the point of constructing a pyramid to cloak inside) . Gourry is a lovable clunkhead, but Amelia and Zelgaids have both loosened up a miniature — he’s mellowed and more pleasurable, and while Amelia calm poses and talks about Justice, she’s also willing to prance a cramped fun at it (the whole “warriors of Justice” episode) .
And Xellos provides plenty of fun when he’s bickering with Filia, even as he reminds us that he’s an amoral Monster who wouldn’t have a qualm about betraying Lina and Co. Filia herself is a likable character — an anxiety-ridden priestess with a esteem of tea parties and antique jars, and a deep hatred of Monsters. But her character becomes great deeper when she discovers the poor past actions of the Golden Dragons.
“Slayers Try” is a solid third season for the Slayers gang, with a slam-bang Threat To The Universe and plenty of base comical relief. Not quite the brilliance of seasons past, but smooth great.

Movie Title: Nancy Drew Nancy Drew is available for streaming or downloading. |
I turn 40 on June 23rd, so I am outmoded enough to remember the Nancy Drew books that my sister had. The movie is faithful to her character. Nancy is a precocious, faded young teenager with an aptitude for cracking complex cases. The storyline follows a similar pattern to the books: Nancy gets engrossed in a mysterious case, she makes progress, people threaten her, she gets in exertion, etc.

In this particular movie, Nancy and her dad are on business in Los Angeles. They are staying at the passe mansion of the gradual actress Dehlia Draycott, who died under notably mysterious circumstances. Nancy is fascinated by the case and works to choose it, getting herself and her friends in hot water in the process.
If you’ve never read a Nancy Drew current, then watching this movie will remind you of a Destroy She Wrote episode geared toward the kids. That’s what this movie is in essence (except of course that Nancy is not a writer per se) .

The film makers resolve to characterize Nancy as a girl who likes used fashioned clothes and weak fashioned ways, yet she is also contemporary (she owns an ipod and has an Apple notebook) .
Some of her peers chide her for being out of touch with the times (judge Brady Bunch Movie), but Nancy is find with herself.
I took some kids from church to the movie today, and they all enjoyed it. My wife liked it, too.
I’m not the harsh critic that others are here. I saw this movie at the theater with my adult sister, adult daughter, and young neice & nephew. All of us enjoyed the it. Beforehand, I wasn’t obvious about Emma Roberts as an actor, but she did a respectable job.
There’s honest is not enough family-type movies (non-animated), to go perceive these days. That’s why I gave this one a 5-star rating. It was fun to peruse a insecure house and the variety of locations feeble. A lot of adventure and ingenuity with Nancy. Keen characters and helpful dialogue. I like to eye order, clever dialogue (does not stoop to swearing & vulgarity to accumulate our attention), as in classic, older movies.
I belief to rob this Nancy Drew 2007 movie on DVD. And will probabaly gaze the sequel, too.

Well finally, a decade after its debut, the cult classic comedian-curative careerist cartoon Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist is on DVD. Like the American version of The Office, the first season of Dr. Katz had merely six episodes. That this necessitates a low-cost single disc compilation could be fortunate or downhearted depending on your wallet-to-patience ratio.

The disc comes in a sure plastic DVD case to allow the episode information to be seen on the succor of the cloak insert when you begin the case. This is handy since there’s no need for chapter listings, however the obvious plastic makes the case mighty flimsier than more popular packaging.
The main menu is of course done in the signature Dr. Katz style. An image of Katz is absorbing in Squiggle-Vision to lip-synch with several psychiatric phrases from the present as the theme song plays. After it repeats once, the music stops and Katz honest sort of stares at you and occasionally glances at the menu selection.

As any Dr. Katz fan should know, the PC-based animation won’t get any awards. Though the narrate is clearer than it’s ever been, the minimalist style of the pixelated MS-DOS scenes and monophonic audio mean you won’t need to have out for an HD version. The indicate is presented in stout shroud as originally aired, although it is framed in fallacious widescreen that is not anamorphic. Considering the quality, it’s probably better when viewed limited anyway.
On the selection menu, there are six commentaries spread across five episodes. Four of them are by Jonathan Katz, H. Jon “Ben Katz” Benjamin, and series creator Tom Snyder (not the talk display host), and are as informative as you’d want and hilarious as you’d inquire of from the cast of an improvised comedy note. The third episode has a second commentary with Ray Romano and Jon Katz (who sounds to be joining via phone) . Episode #105 also has a Romano/Katz commentary.
The encourage of the DVD mentions commentary by Dave Attell, and although this may be misleading, it’s not entirely fraudulent. While the Attell episode lacks a bulky commentary track, a five cramped fraction of the phone discussion with Dave and Katz is relegated to the bonus features part. I’m guessing the commentary was either too short, too blue, or Dave was unprejudiced too bored for them to bother including it in plump. Since Katz, on another track, mentions Attell pretending to acquire “calls from Hollywood” during his session, I’d bet on the latter excuse.
In addition to the commentaries are a cramped selection of other extras. “The Biography of Mr. Katz” (not “Dr.” as the case states) is not some expeditiously thrown together text bio, but rather an eight runt short predating Dr. Katz that shows an early Squigglevision version of Jonathan dictating his life epic to an unseen biographer. It’s hardly uproarious, but unruffled comical to gawk how the style developed. “Shrink Wrapped” is a roughly 40 second short supposedly about a shrink that features more cartoonish voices than fans are passe to, but it’s rather inexplicable and aimless. Two of the fresh Short Attention Span Theater shorts featuring Dr. Katz are included and are as silly as the regular demonstrate. However I certainly remember there being more of them. Perhaps they’re being saved for future sets.
Scant as it is, there’s enough here to tide fans over until the next season is released, and for $15 or less it’s hardly a nail-biting decision. Insert clever therapy pun here.
Dr. Katz is a comedic cartoon with stand-up comedian Jonathan Katz in the starring role of a psychiatrist who has more than his section of professional comedians as patients. This enables them to do their stand-up comedy routines as piece of their therapy sessions. Dr Katz’ 23 year veteran son, Ben, calm lives with the noble doctor and is chronically unemployed. Ben is constantly trying to commence up a romance with Dr. Katz’ receptionist, Laura, with no luck whatsoever. For example, when Ben meets Laura for the first time he asks her if she’d like to go out for coffee, and she does – leaving him to acknowledge the phones. Laura receives a paycheck from Dr. Katz but in many ways is as chronically unemployed as Ben is. She has no interest in pretending to be busy, being nice to the patients, or at times, even showing up for work. For example, when Dr. Katz suggests that Laura to be nicer to the patients she replies “Do you have any concept what it’s like to deal with crazy people all day? ” In the series premiere, “Pot-Bellied Pigs”, Dr. Katz rides Ben elegant hard about being out of work. Ben’s solution to his cash pace pickle is to seize two Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs and breed them in their minute Unusual York City apartment. When Dr. Katz asks Ben if he thinks this is a generous belief Ben’s response is “Dad, the ad says ‘Stay Home, Execute Money’ ….these are respectable things!” The third episode “Bully” is also one of my favorites in which Ben gets very upset when Dr. Katz throws away Bully, the stuffed bull from his childhood. Ben labels everything that belongs to him, and expresses panic that perhaps his father wants him out, too.
Dr Katz employs a fresh animation technique called Squigglevision, which can be visually annoying to some people. In SquiggleVision there is virtually no lateral movement by any of the characters or objects, with only lips, eyes, and the like inviting. However, the edges of the characters are in a constant station of zigzagging flux, and this gives the impression of movement. There are only six episodes in this first season, but the DVD status is reasonably priced considering the season’s short duration. I highly recommend this current comedy as one of the smartest and funniest offerings that Comedy Central came up with before they started trying to appeal to the least well-liked denominator with stuff like “The Man Reveal”.

Frosty Returns
I like 4 out of the 5. I would rather of had Frosty’s Winter Wonderland than Icy Returns. Cold Returns is below the quality of the other 4 on this region. Frosty’s Winter Wonderland is a powerful better match to the quality of the other videos to this place.
Otherwise this position is worth the money. My kids cherish watching the classics I grew up with.
Anybody who has ever seen any of the television shows contained in this location knows how cheesily obliging they are. It’s not like I’m giving you information you don’t already have. If this situation was rated impartial on the merits of the snarl, five stars without a doubt.
However, making me sit through eight minutes of previews…not even previews…produce that eight minutes of “unhurried the scenes” of some completely unrelated cartoon, complete with interviews, is absolutely insulting. I understand that the $5.99 DVD’s at Wal-Mart are going to have previews, but even those allow you to bypass them with the menu button. Not here. Fortunately, this is honest on the first dvd (Rudolph) .
Whoever included the forced “leisurely the scenes” preview should be ashamed. This is a nicely boxed, very well executed collection of Christmas television shows, and tacking on a commercial to the front is honest insane. How insulting!

I recently purchased this DVD and was immensely disapointed with the quality of the transfer. The colors were all over he status with the Grinch appearing as a yellow, then brown and finally slightly green creature. The transfer is dreadful. I would not recommend it to anyone based upon this terrible quality.
I have always loved this classic Dr. Seuss enchanting film and awaited its arrival with sizable anticipation. And while the record is as endearing as ever, I am disappointed that the coloring on this transfer is abominable. The backgrounds are garish and too incandescent and the Grinch is the color of mustard instead of his suitable green color shown on the front of the case. In addition, the pencil tests are far too few and do not add any value to the disc. It is hard to focus on the handsome attributes of this title because of its few, yet glaring oversights. My advice is to wait for a better transfer to reach out, or perhaps recognize out the previous version on dvd which may be of better quality.

There is a gargantuan amount of information on the French Revolution that can be found in scholarly texts, recreational articles, Internet sites, as well as a great selection of documentaries that have been produced over the years. A grand number of these sources are well worth a inspect at for the serious student as well as the allotment time historian. Without hesitation, this documentary should be at the top of the list, because it is not only a perfect introduction, but also an extremely well produced and informative film.

The History Channel has produced many well-made and educational documentaries over the years. One would have to admit that their Biography Series is second to none. But they have really out done themselves with The French Revolution, as it covers the numerous causes of this principal insurrection, focusing on major personages in the aristocracy, the enlightenment and the key political insurgents, painting honorable portraits of Maximus Robespierre and the excited journalist, Marat, leading to their ironic and bloody ends. The Reign of Dismay is depicted particularly well with all its high drama, intrigue and endless bound of blood. Interestingly, these portraits of the major players in the revolution, Robespierre, Danton, Marie Antoinette and Louie the 16th, were all done with such pathos, that I came away from the film feeling genuine empathy for these people, especially Marie Antoinette. This is the scheme history, as a subject, should be taught, evoking feelings for the people and the times under look.
The documentary combines images, well-acted scenarios and informative interviews with academics including a compelling narration – it is also very well written, as it is tremendously difficult to hide such a complex event in a short time and do it any justice. If you have any interest in The French Revolution, an event that virtually changed the world, this documentary would be a reliable starting point. It would also be a worthwhile teaching resource for students in the middle years and above.

I glossed over the French Revolution succor in junior high, but was not able to relate great years later. Because I don’t have the time to read up on French history, I decided to check out this DVD.
First off, I was very ecstatic with the information I received from this program. I could easily glimpse up the info from the web in a matter of minutes, but I doubt I could have learned as considerable as I did from the DVD. Quite simply, the program is done like a chronicle (with visual reenactments) and laced with interviews from scholars. The result is that you’re entertained from commence to enact, while opinion the conflict and events that are being described.
And what’s nice is that although the program isn’t too long, it doesn’t accelerate anything: we learn about Louis XVI’s rise to the throne, his relationship with Marie Antoinette, and what led to their deaths. Robespierre and Marat’s background are also analyzed, as they were both major players in the revolution.
In all, a enormous DVD to occupy. I’ve been watching PBS and History Channel documentaries/programs for some time, and I was jubilant that this production was done well. Although I wasn’t too educated on the French Revolution before this DVD, I felt that the program was done with detail and accuracy. I definitely recommend it!

Movie Title: The Hands of Orlac The Hands of Orlac is available for streaming or downloading. |
I have waited since 1968 to search for this movie which I first encountered in Carlos Claren’s seminal book AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF THE Fright FILM which traces terror movies from 1895 through 1967. It has been worth the wait. In fact I was so taken with the film that I immediately watched it again and enjoyed it more the second time. Made in 1924 at the height of Expressionism in German still cinema, THE HANDS OF ORLAC is the one of the finest examples of this genre that I have ever seen. Directed by Robert Wiene (THE CABINET OF DR CALIGARI) the film combines lighting, sets, camerawork, and performances into a dreamscape of stout power.

The movie is like a hallucination arrive to life as we follow the descent of Conrad Veidt into the depths of madness. Veidt, more than any other quiet performer, veteran his body language to illustrate and assure the most intense emotions. What really surprised me was the sensual almost erotic quality of scenes captivating him and the two vital female performers Alexandra Sorina and Carmen Cartellieri. This adds an element not to be found in the more stylized CALIGARI and shows that there was more to Robert Wiene than we have seen so far. The anecdote of a concert pianist whose amputated hands are replaced with those of a murderer has been remade a number of times most notably by MGM in 1935 as Excited Esteem with Peter Lorre. However none of those versions can compare to this one. Having said that let me also say that those weird with still films will gain this version tough going for it requires you to adjust your exhibit day expectations to those of the peaceful era where body language and visual storytelling are everything. If you can do that then you should score THE HANDS OF ORLAC a rewarding experience especially on repeated viewings.
The restoration of the film isn’t top notch (it resembles how NOSFERATU customary to gawk) but thanks to a remarkably brooding and effective accumulate from Paul Mercer you’ll be drawn in before you know it and will hardly inspect the imperfections. This is a great better film than THE CABINET OF DR CALIGARI and until other of his movies notice the light of day to contradict the fact, THE HANDS OF ORLAC is Robert Wiene’s masterpiece. Thanks to Kino International and the F.W Murnau Foundation for making it available.
A unusual and special allotment of tranquil cinema was the German Expressionist style of the 1920s which is characterized by the emphasis on emotions conveyed by atmospheric lighting and expressive acting, as opposed to what we might call `realism’. Although “The Hands of Orlac” is technically an Austrian production, the country is so closely related to Germany that it features a mainly German cast and crew, and all the typical characteristics of the classic German Expressionist style. Scenes have strong shadows or lighting to emphasize moods, and are usually drawn out to allow the actors to fully order emotions, but there are also moments of realism such as a very convincing bellow fracture residence, as well as the fast-moving climax which brings everything encourage down to earth. Throughout most of this nearly 2-hour-length film, an eerie new orchestral obtain contributes to the somewhat other-worldly feeling of the whole tale, which revolves around the belief of transplanted hands taking over their modern host with characteristics of the hands’ new owner. This appealing notion comes from a French writer of the early 1900s when such Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror stories captured the imagination of many Europeans, and with the advent of enthralling pictures, they became perfect material for the German Expressionist style, of which “Cabinet of Dr Caligari” and “Nosferatu” are unprejudiced some of the most distinguished examples.

Besides the artistic element of using light and shadow, the highlight for me personally is Conrad Veidt’s splendid performance as Orlac, the concert pianist who receives the hands of a convicted murderer after being injured in a direct atomize. This role is by far the most intensely expressive and emotion-packed performance I’ve seen by Veidt, and he carries the suspenseful energy of the anecdote true through the entire film. More than unprejudiced artistic expression however, “The Hands of Orlac” has a clever destroy mystery theme running through it as well which deserves a cramped careful attention to fully delight in. With gracious relate quality and very worthy music, this DVD is further enhanced with some bonus features including detailed notes with background information on the film and its cast and crew, as well as a trailer for its equally spirited 1935 sound remake “Excited Admire” with Peter Lorre. Needless to say, “The Hands of Orlac” deserves its status alongside the best-known German mute classics, and it has been worth the wait to ogle the rotund length restored version released by Kino Video.

Like a sweet dream half-remembered, “Chungking Swear” wavers on the abet of your consciousness, seducing you into its semi-fantasy/semi-honest world of the chance of romance, and the necessity of proximity (0.01 of a centimeter is the distance of attraction) to filling an empty heart. It is appropriate that “California Dreaming” is the background for powerful of the film, because dreaming is what the characters do, intriguing sluggishly through a life not quite dependable.

It is difficult to know what to accomplish of the film at first. There are two stories, interspersed with each other in through the film, both savor stories challenging policemen, a deli shop, and women whom they would esteem. Unlike “Pulp Fiction,” they do not meet up at the raze, and the strangers remain strangers. There is no desirable package. Rather, like Banana Yoshimoto’s novels, they are linked thematically, with the same anecdote being told with different cast members, to glimpse how each person finds their fill ending, regardless of the beginning. While Yoshimoto is Japanese, and Kar Wai is Chinese, there is a similarity in Asian story-telling evident in “Chungking Drawl.”
As to this DVD, while it is gigantic to notice Quentin Tarantino bring Kar Wai’s films to a wider audience, I salvage his commentary a bit annoying and self-serving. Taratino makes some sizable flicks, and Kar Wai is an sure influence on him, but he doesn’t have the personality to comment on something so sweet and subtle as “Chungking Notify.” This is unbiased a personal observation, however, and others may disagree.

Director Kar Wai Wong is a rising star of cinema, seeping to the public consciousness slowly and surely, becoming less of a “Hong Kong Director” and more of an notable contributor to recent film. “Chungking Train” is a exquisite introduction to his work, showcasing his subtle cherish stories, employ of atmosphere and disorientating techniques, such as multiple-languages and film manipulation. Anyone who has seen “Lost in Translation,” “Amelie” or “End Bill” will earn his films familiar.
Located in the heart of mainland Hong Kong, the Chungking Mansions loom colossal and ramshackle over Nathan Road. Wags and scoundrels haunt its gates, along with a frail assortment of Indian touts, whores and long-term transient workers from Africa. Restaurants, tailors, psychics and a whole host of other occupations – some undoubtably illegal – infest the bottom floors in shrimp, grimy compartments. Chungking is also the backpacker ghetto of Kowloon: guesthouses offer rooms as cheap as $10 a night, and the loose, chaotic atmosphere is lively to the more adventurous traveler. When I visited Hong Kong for a week in 2002, there was no other realistic option, for finance concerns and the `lust for life’ drive, than the rank Chungking: intrigue seemed to lurk around every corner. While staying there, my guesthouse manager suggested I rent and contemplate the *Chungking Express*, a 1994 film by Won Kar Wai, loosely connected around the building. I never got around to it…until three years later…and in a scheme I’m joyful I waited to peek this toothsome romp about treasure, obsession and betrayal, for it sparked the nostalgia cylinders and left me in that awed, giddy position that only the best of films can do.
Made on the rapid by Won Kar Wai as a means of rejuvenating his creative energy, *Chungking Mansions* originally consisted of three interlocking stories, but one met the axe (to resurface as its possess film) to give sterling attention (i.e. running time) to those that remained. Of the two stories, only the first has any relation with the Chungking Mansions: a hard-luck dame scours the sleazy corridors for drug-mules, and I must say that the general ambience of the Mansions is faithfully captured. The second memoir occurs in Kowloon and on the Island, and is connected to the first by one chance encounter (~a lustrous means of transitioning chapters) and the underlying themes of loneliness, disconnection and desire.
In the first chronicle, undercover cop He Zhiwu (Takeshi Kaneshiro) broods over the disintegration of his relationship with `May,’ pining for his lost adore with a rather unrealistic `period of absence’ arrangement and, after a time, seeking comfort from any chance encounter. “I’ll tumble in like with the next woman I peruse,” Zhiwu vows in a fit of desperation; and who should arrive along but Brigette Lin, a mysterious figure whom we’ve already seen in dire straights in the bowels of Chungking. This anecdote has the visual glamour of noir – red-lit bars, blur-motion fragments of violence, a femme fatale betrayed and subsequently `saved’ by the gentleman Zhiwu – yet the dialoge really makes it stand above more typical entries into the genre, especially Zhiwu’s internal narration, which ranges from clueless to insightful to downright hilarious. Microscopic but charming, with enough visceral action and mystery to support the plug from flagging.
The second chronicle is by far my approved of the two, and most audiences agree on this, taking into consideration famous acclaim and the reviews on this page; it is easy to explore why. A cop (Tony Leung) stops at the same deli every day for his coffee and chef salad, where he meets and slowly develops a relationship with Faye (Faye Wong), a not-quite-sane nymphet who promptly falls in appreciate with him. Acquiring a key to his apartment, Faye begins to sneak in and rearrange her secret love’s living quarters while he is gone. Leave it to the Chinese to build stalker-obsession cute and poignant! Yet it works, due in tall fragment to the natural sounding and psychologically involved dialogue of the script, and therein made effective by the acting of the two leads. Faye Wong, perhaps the biggest pop/rock star in China, makes her shroud debut here, and what a debut! It is practically impossible to not plunge a shrimp in care for with her furtive, wild-at-heart character. Wong articulates more with a mere examine or throwaway gesture about the stout struggle of repressed desire than most professional actors seem ample of. Tony Leung, a feeble of Hong Kong’s silver veil, shines as usual as the lonesome, half-oblivious cop, and his energy with Wong feels fair, so natural. This is very significant in the later climax of the film, when the director stretches the tension to a breaking point and even manages to milk some well-earned trauma from these circling, faraway (so terminate) lonely souls.
Watching *Chungking Express* brought support a lot of memories. In the background and seeping through the surface, Hong Kong glitters and roars, and the film itself eventually feels like an organic growth of the city, in tune to its rhythms and real-life atmosphere. But one not need be acquainted with the City of the Nine Dragons to relish the quality of *Chungking Express* – this is movie magic in its finest create, infectious and reflective, a paramount example of Asian cinema at its most illuminating. Five stars.

Do not turn this movie down. Melanie Grifith is at her best as a hooker who gets thrown into a diffrent life, and is very charming in her roll. Harris lights up the cloak yet again, and shows he knows which movies to be in. Milk Money is a vast movie, that fill it or not, is pleasurable for the whole family. You won’t regret seeing this movie!
Okay, so the simularities are there…man falls in cherish with hooker…okay so that may be it but you have to admitt that when you spy this movie the first plan that pops in your head is ‘pretty woman’ without Roberts star power. If that’s the point when you turn this off it’s a shame for there is a tiny more to this film than ‘man meets hooker man loves hooker’. First off, the man doesn’t know she’s a hooker till half diagram through. The man is Ed Harris and the hooker V is played by Melanie Griffith. The narrative follows Frank, Harris’s son, as he and his friends effect up their money to pay a hooker to indicate them her breasts. That hooker is V. In a chain of events V ends up staying in Franks tree-house while his father fixes her car. Frank, who has never known what it’s like to have a mother beings that his mother died giving birth to him, is aroused to have V around and is convinced she would be the perfect step-mother (although I regain it uncommon that he wants his step-mother to be the woman he fair saw naked) . The humorous parts of this film consist of when they talk about V’s line of work since V believes Ed Harris knows she’s a hooker and he believes she’s a Math Tutor. The film is sweet and nice Hollywood fluff, nothing too meaty and nothing you’ll be jow dropped and amazed over but it’s cute and light and a decent film to boot so it won’t bore you and may honest be what you feel like watching one rainy afternoon.

Legend of Crystania: The Chaos Ring is a record in the Report of Lodoss War universe, with one of the two protagonists being Cheru (aka Pirotess), the proper servant (maybe even lover) of Lord Ashram, one of the main villains in the new Report of Lodoss War series. While at first confusing, with the characters living in a world where Ashram and Beld (the main villains in the recent Characterize of Lodoss War) are revered as heroes, the state eventually smooths out (advance the demolish of the second episode) . Cheru’s motives are not at first determined and Barbas (the nasty god king) at some points looks identical to Ashram (a ample guy) . Lastly, the fact that all of the characters are in Crystania does not become certain till later on, which also adds to the confusion.

Besides the confusion at times (which is probably the fault of the English translation from Japanese) the explain actors are vast and the animation is Fabulous!! The characters are also unusual and very well-drawn. The combat scenes are aesthetic, with very detailed and realisitc movements.
Originally expecting it to be a movie, I found after I purchased it that it was actually divided into three episodes, which was elegant with me–the opening tune is comely catchy, with the sequence sporting a gorgeous combat sequence between Cheru and a dragon.

Overall, this is a sizable catch though I give it a 4 out of 5 because of the confusion factor. I did not, however, spy the Epic of Crystania movie, which I mediate precedes this series–this could be the reason I was confused. I will be watching the movie in the advance future and may extinguish up switching my rating to 5 out of 5.
